Yes... the gear selector is in "2" and the trannys shifts into third by itself (while the gear selector is still in "2"- only when the engine is warm, though.

I don't know if they all do that, I believe Bill Kondolay told me they do. I was wanting to told it in second to try to keep temperatures down around town and in the mountians before achieving lockup. If I get to say a little over 30 mph and quit accelerating the transmission shifts into 3rd. Not only does it shift into 3rd it shifts straight to 3rd lockup. I assume that if you are decending a hill that your foot is
barely on the oil pedel. Are you around 30 mph when this happens?

When my engine is warm and I am decending the hill near my house (always in 2nd), the transmission will shift into 3rd gear (at roughly 2000 RPM) It doesn't do this when the engine is cold - since it doesn't rev. that high on it's own.

Since I have less than 10,000 miles, could this simply be part of the break-in controlled by the computer - in acting as a rev. limiter (but to only 2000?). Or is there a problem here?

This would scare the hell out of me if I was towing anything! - heck it scares me empty!

Hey Scooby,

The shift pattern you just described is quite normal. It is happening because there is no throttle pressure. Throttle pressure resists upshifts, governor pressure forces upshifts.

In 1996 Dodge went to a completly electronic governor circuit. Governor pressure continues to rise because of the vehicle speed. Since there is no throttle pressure to resist the upshift(foot off the throttle)

Feel free to call me if you want some more info on how to get around it.

Arlan,

You are correct about the speed - roughly 30mph. But when the engine is cold, it'll hold 35+ mph. Sounds wierd - whats the point of having a gear selector if the transmission doesn't stay in the gear you selected?!

Thanks for the offer Bill, I'll give you a call soon!

I noticed that on mine too. It has to warm up then it will shift better. Unless i really fether the pedel.
