I have a 1998 2500 SLT SB 24 valve with automatic. From day one I have had trouble with my automatic not going back into first gear when I come to a stop. It is in second gear. To quickly remedy the problem, I cycle the engine off then on again and this always clears up the problem. Dodge has replaced the valve body, the computer, and even my transmission. Yet they have not been unable to fix this annoying problem. It only happens when I am towing my 7500 lb. travel trailer. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this problem? I am about to pull out my hair.

DTT has extensive experiance with 2nd gear starts

www.dieseltrans.com ,, they have a forum there also,, and if you look through them for a little while, you may be able to find something that will help you.

You can try to give 'em a call to 1-866-504-4002 I'm sure They'd be glad to help you.

edit: I found about four or five posts on your problem,, but I can't cut&Paste them here.

I guess you'll have to look under "Discussion Forums" at DTT

I just had my trans. repaired the proper way: I had DTT 89% T. C. ,V. B, double deep Maag Hy-Tech oil pan, & other parts replaced. :DMy factory trans. would act like yours after I towed my trailer & came to a stop. James Northum is a DTT authorized installer & he said that when this happens you are in "limp mode" & that cycling the key will take it out of that mode. Two different Dodge dealers overhauled my trans. last year. Now it is fixed. Call DTT for the truth!
