Pulled out to pass a SLOW-moving Caddy today on a two lane, running about 60. Floored it, transmission stayed locked up in OD. No downshift. With all that available torque, I still passed the slo-poke with no problem. But, I'd still like to know if I have a problem. The trans was serviced about 8k miles ago, everything looked fine. Linkage, maybe?

Jim, mine sometimes doesn't downshift too. I think it may be the throttle position sensor getting weak. I believe there is a way to adjust the kickdown cable. It was on an older thread,if you do a search you should be able to find it. One gratifying thing about it though, when I do go around them when that happens... . SMOKE SHOW!!

Jim,

At 60 with those gears I don't think you want it to kick down. That's about right to be at the "flat spot" in your power curve. Just get more noise and it excellerates like a dog.

Thanks, guys! I'm going to consider it to be one of those, "Ain't broke, don't fix it things"! I'm not touching it.

Just touch the brake before you pass and the torque converter will unlock and give you a little boost

At 60 mph, the PCM will not permit a downshift to third. Not sure of the cutoff mph, but its in the big manual.

If you want it to pull hard at 60mph,you need to install a TST or similar power kit. Along with that a bd valve body or a shift kit to up line press. After I put my 250 plate in the truck went from a turtle to a cheatah, especially at 60+mph in lockup. I like the peace of mind knowing I can pass at will without fear of not making it back in or having a close call. Bombs away!

Jim,I just noticed that you are well out of warranty,so there is no reason to suffer any more, the money it costs is peanuts when we think about how much we put into these trucks in time and there worth to us.

No doubt, fellas! I'm well on my way to BOMB HEAVEN! Installed the guages, spun the starwheel, now comes THE PLATE! Just gotta save them nickels. But the way I see it, I'll go slowly, and savor each chamge! I'm loving my truck, and am certainly not afraid to BOMB! I just wanted to make sure I didn't have a problem. I'm a diesel virgin, and these things just don't act anything like a gasser, so I thought I'd ask the question. Thanks a ton for all the replies. This sight ROCKS!
