hey guys i have a question my dad has a 01 dodge cummins and it has 30,00 miles on it we are going to change the auto transmission fluid and we were wondering if there is a way to drain the torque converter also we were wondering if anyone is running a synthetic auto transmission fluid and how do they like it

thanks nick

I changed mine just recently. the only way i know of to drain the torque converter is:

A) pull the transmission and tip the converter upside-down

B)Go to a transmission shop and have them do a flush.

I did option B. My friend at the local big-O tires flushed the transmission with ATF TypeIII, then put the Chrysler +3 additive in it. Works perfect.

hope this helps

TQ drain

I have a dumb question... .

I have a Suncoast Pro Lock TQ and would also like to drain it when I change my trans fluid. There is an inspection cover on the trans bell housing, I assume that I can access the drain plug from there. My dumb question is; will the TQ rotate by hand to get to the plug and if I fill the trans back up through the dipstick funnel will that also fill the TQ?

Dave

Dave, you can use a large screwdriver to turn the TQ from the inspection area. Its simple to do.

and yes the fluid will pump into the TQ

I just drained mine and without loosening the valvebody, I got 14. 5 qts out.

If you loosen the vb, you could get a couple more. my fluid was in good shape so I didn't worry about it

I drained mine into a 5 gallon container, that way I could measure how much came out.

Do you have a mag hytec transmission pan? gotta love the drain :)

10-4

On the Mag HyTek transmission pan. Should make this process much cleaner!

My fluid should be OK... just had the Suncoast stuff installed last year. I'm gonna change it before I head up to the Pacific NW this summer just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again

Dave
