Warming up the Cummins?

My transmission does not shift down to 1st gear everytime I stop,so it starts out in second gear. This happens more than 1\2 the time. Anybody else notice this? Seems like this condition would add considerable wear to the clutch packs etc. The Cummins doesn,t care of course. Thanks

Call Bill Kondolay and talk to him about this. At our last RMTDR meeting, Bill was talking to Banshe Bill about this same issue, and I don't remember what the cause was, but Bill knew all about it.

I want to add a question to this thread.
What exactly does 'lock-up' mean? I would like a basic lesson in how an auto-transmission works. Thanks to Bill K. or Piers or ? in advance.

Turbo Terry, My truck started the same problem recently. My truck also started stalling in the morning. I added some transmition part as you can see from my signature. the other day I disconected my battery for 2+ hrs and she has been working properly. I really don"t know If that was the fix, I'll let you know If I have any more problems. Also a TDR member informed me to contact Piers from BD power and He has a Small devise that is added to my pressure lock to fix the problem, also Piers is on vaca for a week or so. but like I mensioned the battery disconect help so far.
hope this helps you

Try unhooking the battery for about 5minutes. This will reset the computer. I have seen the same problem in a Phurd and the battery thing fixed the problem. Can't swear it will work, but it doesn't hurt to try!

Raw's right My rig did it at 7,000 miles and the tsb was simply a band adjustment (seems the factory bands stretch prematurly 7,000 miles V. s 15,000 service intervals)
