We have a 2014 with the Uconnect 5 and the EVIC. The rear view mirror is auto dimming and there is a position on the head light control for automatic but when I turn on the high beams, they don't dim when there's on coming traffic. Is there a setting in the Uconnect 5 or the EVIC that has to be activated for auto dimming?

Thanks
Dave

What trim level is your truck? I was under the impression that automatic high beams were only available on the Laramie and up.

We have the SLT so probably no auto high beam even though the mirror has the big box behind it and what appears to be the sensor lens on the back of the mirror.

You have to have the light control knob on auto, NOT all the way to the right (clockwise). If you have it all the way to the right, it will do what you tell it to do and stay on high if you have the lever positioned there. At least on the Longhorn it is that way. This feature I believe is a part of a convenience package and if you have the big block behind the mirror, I'd think that would mean that you have it. Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

I have an SLT Big Horn edition and mine has the big box behind the mirror. Mine doesn't auto dim either. Maybe it is standard on the Longhorn? Maybe it has to be dealer activated for the others?

Ok, I just looked in my 2014 Ram pickups buyers guide. The auto high beam headlamp control is part of the Convenience Group for the Laramie Crew/Mega, Power Wagon Laramie Crew, Laramie Longhorn Crew/Mega and Laramie Limited Crew/Mega.

Your not missing too much anyway. From my experience so far with the auto high beams is that they work reasonably well but you have to pay attention because sometimes it seems to have a brain fart and not dim soon enough and you have to manually dim them. Other times the reflection of a good white sign will make them dim. As well on the road I drive every day has a cell tower that has the typical red marker lights on it way up and they trigger the truck to dim the lights, yet the odd set of head lights right in front of me won't trigger them?? Ok feature, but requires attention with oncoming traffic regardless.

They work great for me...However, I'm in a rural area. They seem to error on the side of caution..Some street lamps ,and white signs like mpaulson said, causes a delay back to high beam. We'll see after a few months of driving if it becomes just another novelty item.

I still miss the ole days of foot switch operated high beams

I'm with mpaulson on this one. I have a another vehicle with auto high beam that sometimes dims them too late causing irritation with other drivers. I don't use auto high beam unless I am in rural areas.

Me too. We were just talking about that last night on a 60 mile trip back to our RV at 9 pm. Dutch also mentioned that the lever just isn't very convenient for him but I'm OK with where it is. Hugs, Di

No one dims their lights anymore anyway. #@$%!

In the urban areas or with younger drivers this is especially true. Out in the rural areas, folks still know common courtesy.
