I have a slight hesitation between the 1 to 2 shift at very slight acelerator aplication, it will bounce back and forth between 1st and 2nd untill I give it a little more throttle then it will stay in 2nd. Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Come to think of it, this is only when startig out with a cold transmission also.

Kinda wondering what to adjust or repair

Bump

I'm still chasing this problem.

I don't accept it as the nature of the beast, it has not done this all along it is a recent development. I looked in the D/C repair manual and it did not have this symptom in the diognostics section. I am hoping a transmission guru will chime in with a possible solution. I have just put in a ATS tow edition valve body and a ATS 5 Star torque converter and the problem remains so I will assume this would eliminate the non electrical parts of the valve body since the valve body is a swap out assembly only retaining the electrical harness and solenoids.

I guess my question would be will a govenor solenoid cause a transmisson to hunt between 1st and 2nd gear at light throttle and not affect any of the other shifts? This is not a result of anything added to the transmission because the problem started before any changes were made. The only thing that has been a problem is the stock torque converter was slipping but I have been careful not to bake it, when I replaced it and the valve body the oil pan was very clean with a little fuzz on the magnet. Any sugestions on what to check to pin this down are appreciated.

I've been dealing with this for 6 months now. I've talked to a dodge trans tech a couple of times. He said to clean battery cable ends (no corrosion should be visible), wrap a piece of foil around your alternator wire (?????), adjust bands, adjust throttle cable, and then possible govenor sloenoid replacement. If you figure this one out let me know!!!!! This is about the only complaint I have with my truck.

adjust bands,

Mine was doing that and also slipping ounce in a while, adjusted bands and it got better. Still does it going up my driveway though. After playing with it a while it seems as though the transmission goes from 1st locked to 2nd unlocked and when you hit the pedal a touch more it locks in second.

Doesnt help ya much but it might help to find the problem.

change the governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure switch, drop the pan and both of them are right there easy fix.

had the same problem with my trans before the DTT went in.

Unless you have a lockup switch there is no way it will lock in first gear.

My trans has been acting up lately. The 1-2 shift has always had "crossover" (I guess you'd call it that?) where it goes into both gears at the same time.

The other day I was going about 25mph and it stuck into O/D and the convertor locked up. It was almost stalling the engine. Dunno WTF was going on there.

put a pressure guage in your gov. pressure port in the transmission and watch your govener pressure when it acts up! read the pressure then call your transmission builder and diagnostic is easy if they have pressure readings!!

Well bad news, 2nd gear is now AWOL :( replaced the valve body again and it is still gone, I replaced the 2 solenoides and it stopped the hunting. I don't know if the hunting between 1st and 2nd could have broken anything that would cause 2nd gear to not engage. I figure the front band is worn beyond its ability to get a grip on the drum, the nut is almost all the way in now. Ordered a new transmission from ATS and this should end my problems.

Gota love the little detours on the upgrade path :-laf
