Right now my ebrake in the 97 is turned on and off with a toggle switch. I was thinking of seeing if I could get a knob on the shifter lever that had a button built in. It seems like some dodge product I drove once (a van?) had the OD switch on the end of the knob. Anyone ever try to adapt one?

BM has a couple of knobs with buttons to control transbrakes or linelocks, but I can only find round or t-handle. I think the button is a little to exposed on those and would get bumped.

Any ideas?

My 01 has a button on the end of the shift knob that turns O/D on and off. I think all 98. 5 and newer autos have this. Might be able to make it work.

Thanks - I knew I had seen one somewhere. I guess I haven't driven a 24valve automatic in a while. Does anyone know if the 1st gen's had them on the stalk as well? I'm going to head out to the bone yard tomorrow and see what I can find.

Cummins4Life - great info. Thanks! Guess I'll have to start reading the 1st gen forums now too.

One question about the operation of the O/D button on your truck. Does it remember the setting (on or off), or does it defaut to 'on' every time you start the truck?

Thanks,

-Vic

The switch in the 24 valve handle is a momentary contact switch. You will need to wire in a relay to make it switch something. I installed one in my '94 and it toggles the T/C clutch lock up on, I added a throttle switch from a BD exhaust brake to switch it off.

I think if you used a dpdt relay and wired it right you could use the momentary contact switch to toggle it on and off. You could control the default by how it is wired.
