I'am planning on going from conventional oil to Royal Purple for the engine, but I'am also thinking on switching to Royal Purple for the automatic trans in my 01 4x4.

If I do switch to the Royal Purple ATF, do I have to add any additive to it? I know that if you change your ATF other than at a Chrysler dealer, you have to add some type of additive to the ATF fluid to meet Chrysler specs.

My next question is this:

If I'am going to switch to RP in the trans, where should I get it done?. I'am sure most trans shops won't be crazy on you wanting them to put in RP ATF that you supply, when they would rather sell you there own trans fluid.

I'am thinking that the trans would be much better off with a new trans filter, the bands tightened and then the Royal Purple ATF, instead of the trans being only drained and then the Royal Purple ATF added ? ! ?.

Another side bar:

DTT transmissions told me that they don't recommend trans flushes, they only recommend draining, filter and adjusting the bands. They told me this a while ago, (I think) there reasoning behind it was, you end up flushing crap throught the trans cooler and it can get caught up inside... ... ... . any thoughts on that ?

My truck has 58,000 miles on it !

Any recommendations ?

Thanks !

Matt
