When I'm crusing in OD my transmission seems like its confused and it keeps shifting up and down. I can see it in my tach. What could be wrong ? Fluid level is good.

Mine did that to, I had to have the T/C and valve body replaced then IT was fine, better than new. Or It could be your fluid, how many miles on the fluid

I don't get on here very much any more unless I have a problem, like tonight, and my problem is identical to yours. Looks like we have the same kind of truck. My transmission does the same thing but only with temps in the mid 90's or above mainly in city driving. Last year I called my transmission guru and he told me about a heat related problem causing eletrical feedback to the pcm. Last year I unhooked batteries, totally discharged system by turning on lights, etc, let set a few hours, hook batteries back up, turn on ign, slowing push acc. pedal all the way down and slowly back up to reset throttle position sensor, and this seamed to help for awhile. I was looking tonight to see if anybody has a more permanent fix.

I too have the same problem. I posted this topic a couple months ago and since have done some more research. The response I got was, you need to disconnect all your grounds and thourghly clean them. Or replace the alternator with a bigger one. Or put a noise filter on. The problem explained to me was the TC was going in an out of lock up. I haven't had the time to disconnect the grounds yet but I think I am headed down that path this weekend. Mine seems to happen when there is water on the roadway or if it is raining. I notice it usually between 40-55 mph. It is very annoying and I am sure it is not good on the transmission. I hate the 47RE transmission and can't wait to replace it.

DTT Noise Filter

There's been a great deal of controversy over this "hunting" issue. I had same problem, did the APPS reprogram and it only lasted a few months. Then someone here mentioned the DTT Noise Filter for $35 - I think. I haven't had any hunting issues in over 9 months and at least 12k miles.

Not trying to start a product war - just sharing what worked for me - Heck $35 isn't even a half tank of fuel anymore. can't hurt to try it out. MHO

Auto transmission - Erratic shift in OD

I talked to a transmission shop today about mine. He's going to scan the computer for codes. If it's the throttle position sensor (TPS) the computer should be showing a code. He says its very common. The TPS is located on the bell crank? I'm not sure what they mean but the Dodge place wants 400 clams for a new one.

Would this noise / OD hunting problem be similar to the 1-2 upshift situation?

If I start out with a light pedal pressure (1400-1500 rpm) and traffic clears suddenly, and then I push harder to maybe 2100 rpm, the transmission does a back and forth dance before it decides to stay in low and then start upshifting normally.

My "resolution" to this has been to retrain my driving technique: Normally allow the traffic to leave me behind, when the vehicle in front is about 3-4 car lengths, I slowly press down until the tach is 2100-2200 rpm. The transmission shifts perfectly under that scenario.

Likewise, if I am not in a hurry and just leave the tach at 1600-1700 it shifts perfectly then too. What totally upsets the apple cart is to try and drive this thing like a sports car jockeying the go pedal back and forth like when driving a stick shift. The transmission gets all confused and the result will scare you to death.

Any hope that the noise filter would resolve this situation?

it maybe apps i had the tc replaced trany overhaul and stillhad the haunting in over drive. two trips to the dealer they found that i had gounds in the wireing harness from ecm to trans computer. the apps was replaced first and did solve some of the troubles.

just a side note dodge dealer could not find the problem had to take to chrysler jeep dealer there trany guy found it.

love the way it drives now

In slow traffic, I lock my DTT transmission out of OD until 50 mph. Otherwise it will start hunting @ 45 mph. Will the noise filter help me?

Hi, what is the transmission noise filter, exactly? I have a 99' and my transmission does the same thing as the problems stated above. Where can I get one for 37 deniro?

Thanks,

Dean

The DTT noise filter fixed mine. Six months working perfectly.

Easy to install if you are not color blind and can connect some wires. Call DTT. 1 866 504 4002

My 2000 Quad cab, Auto 4X4, with 100K miles was hunting around 3rd to 4th, lock and unlock the TC, at about 40-45 MPH. Today I did the preliminary steps, Disconnected and cleaned both Batteries, Cleaned the grounds on the Fenders, Cleaned the ground strap from the PCM to the Cowl. The connection at he PCM was terrible! The PCM has an aluminum chassis, and it was corroded were the ground strap was connected, and the other end was just grounded though the threads of the self-tapping screw. I cleaned up both ends with a Scotch -Brite pad in a 90 degree sander and reconnected. After reconnecting both Batteries, I did the APS re-set thing. Now the truck drives much better, for now. I am not sure how long this fix is going to work, but I’ll wait and see. If this comes back I’ll have to do the DTT Filter. Regards, Moose

One Week later, and it's still working Good

My 99 2500 SLT was doing the same thing. A code check showed the APPS was giving erratic signals. The Dodge dealer wanted $425 for a new APPS. I thought I would try to fix mine before shelling out that kind of cash for a sensor. I removed the electronic sensor from the bellcrank before I found out you are not supposed to do that. It is apparently callibrated at the factory. After cleaning and excersising it I reinstalled it and had many problems. Imediate check engine light on first shift and the engine would go to idle anytime it wanted to. Very dangerous. Pumping the throttle would bring the power back until the next time. I decided to give it one more try and apperently got real lucky. I left the batteries disconected overnight, shifted the sensor ever so slightly, rehooked up the batteries, cycled the ignition switch 3 times without starting the engine (check engine light went out), slowly cycled the throttle 3 times with ignition in on position, and then started it up. Everything is PERFECT! It drives out like new. A howling noise that the truck used to have around 1500-1800 rpm that sounded like it was from the turbo area has also gone away. If any of the problems return, I'll probably spring for a new APPS because it seems to control so many of the engine and transmission functions. Good Luck!
