Well, I am getting close to my first transmission fluid change on my 2001 2500 4x4. Jiffy lube and Dodge dealer both offer a total fluid change process. I recall something written in a post several months back regarding some negative comments on this. Do I remember correctly or what?

Fluid change

I would refrain from letting the j-lube guys do it unless you have a strong heart. In a weak moment I drove into one (j-lube in Flagstaff Az. last summer while on a trip to Ca. ) Just wanted to get oil changed, I had my own Fleetguard filter in case they didn't, (they didn't) I very carefully explained to the guy, I only want the oil and filter changed (no free sweep out the floor board, check the fluide etc. ) When They pulled it onto the rack, there were three of them all over my truck, when they were through, the mgr. wanted to charge me for the delux whatever including an oil filter which I furnished, and they put the wrong oil in the truck. Well, as long as I am conscious, that will never happen again. Hope you have better luck. bg

Unless you have a physical problem that will not allow you to do so, you should do it yourself. There's plenty of help on this forum to get you through it step by step, and you'll know what you have done, and you will feel very good about it. ;)

The last time I went for a fluid change the turd turned down my line pressure hoping for some future business , good thing I cought it soon enough before any damage was done , The guys at DTT walked me through the prosses of getting it back up to snuff (Bill if you read this thanks, next time I towed It never slipped once even going up a 6% grade towing with my foot to the floor ) The point here is the only person you can trust a 100% is your self , I will always do that change myself

and from what I've seen Bill Kondolay can be trusted 99. 9%

that a pretty good average

Your truck is still new enough that the complete flush/change routine would probably be quite do-able. I assume you want to change types of fluid, perhaps go to synthetic? Bill K's promary caution was relative to older trannies, where the process of flushing and completely changing fluid MIGHT stir up or dislodge wear particles from previous use, and cause problems in the transmission - but a relatively new transmission shouldn't have that problem...
