On my '93 Cummins project, I am looking at possible options for trasmissions to run an np203 doubler set-up. My current set-up is a Getrag to a 205, but would like to consider a th400 / np203 / np205 or something similar. Maybe even a C6 or 727. Any thoughts on jumping to an older GM transmission to put behind a Cummins?

I'm putting together a CTD/A518/np203/np205 conversion into a 1979 Dodge W200 Crew Cab.

From the info. I've gathered over the last few months of research is the majority of the people I've talked to say to use the A518 because of the overdrive, and CTD will perform better overall. MPG, lifespan etc.

Now, as far as I've found Dodge never put a np203 behind any A518. The only place I've found sofar that can help is a place called NorthWest FabWorks, http://www.northwestfab.com/ . I've talked to Kyle and he says he can machine a A518 tailhousing to fit a np203 case. All he needs is a A518 tailhousing and the length of the A518 output shaft.

There is a guy on the Pirate that put a 203/205 doubler behind a OD auto, in a 93 dodge gasser. It wasn't a 518, but it was a little later OD auto. Pretty good writeup on it.



Next weekend I'm taking out my 90 dodge CTD with a 727/205 combo, 38" swampers and locked 410s. After next weekend I'll decide if a doubler is in my future. I really don't want to drop axle ratio any more, but I may need more gear.

I think I have scored a great trade for a 727 / np 205 out of an '89 Cummins that had the 3. 07 axle gears. Does anyone know the gearing for this low-geared transmission?
