Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) automatic transmission trouble

hello i am very new to this forum but have had my 1996 dodge for six years it is an automatic that has 55,000 on a new rebuild. my problem is that i have no first gear most of the time but when it does shift into first it gets stuck and wont come out unless i stop put it in reverse and back up then put it in drive but then it starts back out in second. ive been told it is probably electrical i was wondering if anyone has had this problem or tell me were i could look on here for the possible answer thank u

We were told when we had a problem on our 1996 several years ago that it was the band strut on the low/1st gear. It had broken. We took it to a transmission shop and he repaired it without removing the transmission. Diana
