Can anyone out there give me an idea on what the service life of my auto. transmission should be? I have 160k miles and am wondering if I should start thinking of a new one? I spend 4 months in Mexico each year and would rather not lose it there.
Thanks Mike

I asked the same question a couple of weeks back - the concensus seems to be that you are at about the point where the *average* A/T could use a rebuild - many go fewer miles before overhaul, some go further... Like you, *I* prefer to have mine taken care of at a time and place of MY choosing rather than "Murphy's"... #ad

"Dura" WHAT? NOW I know where all those recycled beer cans go...

My 92 service truck went 135 before I overhauled it. It runs at 8500 lbs in stop and go traffic. I have pulled campers to CO a few years. It had shifted so many times, it had worn the seperator plate almost in two in several places. It was hanging on to shifts too long. I decided to do it before it went at a bad time.

Thanks I've been out of town for 4 months,so i'm a little behind on the past threads. sorry to repeat questions, but it sounds like I should start looking at the new transmission options.
Thanks again Mike

My 92 has 200,000 miles. All its had done to it is regular maintenance(fluid, fliter, and band adjustments).

Well, my '93 has 153,000 and is on the third transmission. All of those were BEFORE bombing so I'm not sure how long this one will last!

168,000 miles with moderate towing and still shifts very nicely. The previous owner was a little lax on transmission maintenance, but everything works fine. I am going to adjust the bands this time when I change the oil and filter. I know of one 1992 with a 240,000 miles that has hauled four to six draft horses all of its life and it has never had transmission problems. Hope this helps you out a bit.
