autometer dual guage pod

i am about ready to install my dual guage autometer full a-pillar. it is billed as a replacement a-pillar, but it does not appear to be that. it seems as if it might better be mounted on top of existing a-pillar. it came with metal screws and plastic fasteners, but has anyone removed the original and mounted the replacement directly to the post. the replacement does not have the tail piece that runs down the door opening moulding, so if i take the original off i will have to somehow cut the tail piece off and secure it to the door opening moulding. i wanted to avoid having to drill holes in the original. input welcome. thanks #ad

Wow I am getting ready to do the same thing. Was at a meet the other day in Glen Burnie Md. and one guy replaced his whole a pillar and used some small sheet metal screw to re-install the replacement. Looked good and he said that once I removed the stock cover I would see that installing the replacement would be fairly easy. I would use caution removing the stock one and if it doesn't look like its going to work then off to plan B. I havn't been able to locat a full replacement and I bought mine from Genos. Its the 3 gauge w/tweeter. Good luck and if you do a search on this topic you will find what you are looking for.

Robert at Geno's recommends removing the original on a '94-'97. The picture of the '95 on Geno's site is of my truck if you want to take a look, and the Autometer replaced the original beautifully! Very happy with the installation. I painted mine with trim paint from dealer.

I dont know if this will help,But I just installed a 3 gauge pillar pod on my '99. It was supposed to be mounted atop the original, but I removed the original and the new one fit in beautifully. You'll probably need to get some heavy duty,super sticky #ad
double sided tape.

thanks guys for the input... KODIAK... i looked at geno's site, but on the '94 there is a tail piece to the original that is not there on the replacement... hence that 12" long tail piece will need to be cut from the original and attached back onto the door opening moulding along the lower side of the dash somehow... i painted mine also and it looks good... hope to install it this weekend... thanks again #ad

I had mine off today and the top clip was broken. It will never work again. BUT, I have a batt. drill, bit, screws, and a screw driver so it don't matter. Your right about the tail. It seems the tail has a lite clip at the base to hold it on. Have no idea how to transfer it to the new one. I think I would just fit it over the old if it would.
The instructions say to pull the cover to you but it should be pulled toward the door.
Hope you find a way.
