Thats right , got in my truck the other morning, started it ,checked my gauges on the pillar and saw my top guage (EGT) all fogged up . Got home went to bed ,got up about 4 hrs. later, checked my gauge again ,fog gone . Well, I called Summit Racing to see if under warranty,it was, ( 1 YR. ) until Sept. 8 of this year, just made it. Took it out & mailed it back the same day. I didn't have a receipt or invoice #or any proof of purchace. Thank goodness Summit Racing keeps better records than me !!! Mike :p

What caused the fogging?

Did you leave your window down in a rainstorm?

If not you might have a leaking cab clearance

light (does your truck have them?)...

The gauges are not "sealed" so somehow moisture

got inside.

I had the same problem and found that I had a leaking left side cab clearence light. It leaks and runs down the head liner and into the first cupped portion of the pillar, or the top gauge.

Fogged

Cam, welcome to the club, seems this is one of the downfalls of the auto-meter EGT gauges! There was a thread on this a few months ago and it seems to be a common thing as there were quite a few that had this proplem. Replaceing with a new guage is not the answer as I have tryed this and the new one fogged allso.

Mine fogged the first day i got it, but never again, same with my friends Auto Meter EGT gauge in his Ford and i have a friend with a Grand National who had the same thing happen, but only once. It seems to be a normal issue with them, but it will cause no harm. Its not caused by a leak in the cab of your Ram, it is an internal issue with gauge. In all the cases i have seen, there was no external moisture anyhwere near the gauge.

I've been running Autometer's oil pres, water temp, and volts gauges in my cruiser for a while. I've noticed that only when it is really hot and humid the oil and water would fog up. The volts never fog up. In about an hour they're cleared up and like new. All I know is they still work great.

Fogged Autometer Gauges

Folks, my Z-Type EGT gauge fogs up from the outer ring to the center, the AT gauge has only fogged up once after a really bad rainy night. It does go away after the internal light has been on for a few miles. I emailed Autometer and got a really quick response. I was told that I can return the gauges and they will put an anti-fog coating on the inside and return them post haste. (I hope that's not just a line!)

I emailed them back that, as I needed the gauges for towing this Summer and Fall I hoped it would be alright to return them after the towing season and they said the gauges should be OK till then.

I hope this is some food for thought!

Cumapart, I think you might be right on the high humidity, It just got done raining and you could see the steam comming up from the ground ,I dont have cab lights, and my pillar was dry when I pulled out my EGT guage. NOW,I did have my window down on the drivers side ,as well as the passangers side about 1/2'', and I do have the Dodge sunshade ( the plastic thing above the windows to keep rain from com'in in) What I dont understand is why my Boost guage didn't fog up as well. Thanks Mike

Maybe It's a East Coast thing !!!

:D

Ditto on the fogging. My trans and diff temp fog up the most. The pyro only fogged up once. Not real happy with the fogging issue but it does go away after about 10 minutes.

Autometer is working on a fix for the gauges. New Gauges are on back order from Autometer, Geno's told me that they are waiting to a new ship from Autometer in about 2 weeks. The new gauges are going to have an Nofog lens... I have an order in for one now... should be about 3 week until I get it...

Hmm then Im not alone. I have had it happen twice but it does go away quick. Im wondering when I hit the raining seaon.

I was thinking of creating this post... and here it is. Glad I'm not alone. I put my gauges in a few weeks ago and my EGT fogs up quite often. I'll see if I can get a new gauge when the anti-fog ones come out.

Thanks for the information on the anti-fog glass.

As with all gauges if its open at some point hole for light ect take gauge out still hooked up if possible turn on light let it sit up side down with hole tilted up as to let air flow from bulb heat to remove water vapor from housing of gauge . Try it first before sending back for a new one . Hope this helps . Ron in Louisville KY.  :D

Ron, I had already sent it back. It did clear up, and it didn't seem to effect the reading at all. Thanks for your suggestion.
