Autometer Pillar Mount in 92 D250

Just received my ISSPRO Tach from Diesel Injection and a Combo gauge with boost and pyro from Geno's Garage. I plan to install them in an Autometer A - pillar dual gauge pod. After looking at the gauge pod and my pillar and the hokey looking fasteners sent with the pod, I wonder if any of you have better ideas for mounting the gauge pod to the pillar trim?



Also, does anyone know if the factory wiring harness in my truck that supports the tachometer has enough capacity to power the combo gauge and lamp as well? That would surely make the wiring simpler and reduce the number of wires that need to be routed up the pillar.

I thought the same thing about those cheesy plastic "fasteners", so I did not use them. Mine is mounted low as possible so that the dash holds the bottom in place, and I used a real screw at the top. Works out nice. I painted the screw head with the same paint I painted the gauge mount with. Got the paint from the local body shop supply outlet to match the factory dash color. They custom mixed a spray can for me.



Not sure about the tach wiring, haven't added one yet. I powered my pyro from the "gauges" fuse, and the lights from the dash light fuse so they dim with the dash lights.

Gauge Pod

Although I didn't realy like them, still ended up using the plastic bugger buttons, was afraid that screws would put too much strain on the plastic in cold weather and cause it to crack. You can run the lights from fuse number 14, connect onto the orange wire, it's switched on and off with the instrument lamps.

I built my own 3 gauge pillar pod out of an AutoMeter single and a double and used the plastic fasteners without any problems. I've even removed and reused them twice - still no problems.

Thanks for the input. I put the gauge pod in with the plastic fastners as recommended by autometer. Wish I had drilled the holes one size smaller than the 3/16" they stated in the instructions. The fastners went in way too easy to suit me. The mount hasn't fallen off yet - so maybe it will be OK after all. Looks great.



Gauges in and working. 21 lbs boost and 1200 degrees pre-turbo going up steep hill at WOT. Not bad for an old dog.



I'm really surprised at how fast the exhaust temperature returns to the 2-300 degree level. I thought it took a couple of minutes at least. Sometimes just a block or two in town will cool it.
