Helped my son install an Autometer tach. in his 92. Located sensor at 8 O'clock position per CBottmley's pic. Worked great right from the get-go,However I still didn't feel lucky enough to go out and buy a lottery ticket. :-laf . There seems to be a little problem on start-up. When the plugs are warming up and the buzzer- is a buzzin-, the tach needle jumps all the way to the right and then back below zero until the engine starts. then it registers the rpm's. What I am concerned about is damaging the movment with all that jerking around. Haven't calibbrated yet. Any ideas?

That erratic movement you're witnessing is simply the tach searching for a signal from the probe. It's normal and nothing to get alarmed about. ;) As far as calibration is concerned, you'll need to get your hands on an optical tach. Any diesel shop and most automotive shops should have one. A piece of inductive tape is placed on the crank pulley and an optical tach (kind of like a timing gun) reads the signal. You adjust the dash tach to the RPM's on the optical tach. You'll need a small precision type screwdriver to adjust that calibration screw on the back of the Autometer tach.
