Utility Trailer-Adding Brakes?

Another RV Manufacture gone belly up.

I have been reading on here about some of you using a 12V shut off solenoid on your aux tank. While I think this is a good idea in stead of just gravity drain I have been having trouble finding one. I did find an Asco valve which is a good quality valve but pricey. Those of you who have an electric valve what did you use and where did you get it? TIA Shad

Shad,

I'm using THIS inexpensive universal fuel tank selector valve to remotely turn the gravity feed of my aux bed tank on and off. It's available at most auto parts stores.

While it's designed to select between two different tanks, it can also be used as a simple on / off valve for one tank. Installation instructions were included in the box.

Best regards,

John L.

I use a 1/2 lb back check valve and a 12 v fuel pump... a dash switch and fuel filter finish off the installation... . I just flip the switch inside the cab and the pump starts, pushes fuel past the check valve, through the filter into the main tank... I've used the same principle on several trucks. .

The 1/2 lb back check keeps the fuel from flowing from gravity...

I've tried the solenoid and gravity in an early truck 12-14 years ago... when the filter got a little bit restricted the fuel almost stopped flowing. .

I use a similar system, my tank is a top feed with a pick up tube. I can not gravity feed. I also flip a switch to turn the pump on, no check valve needed.
