We purchased a 45 gallon midship fuel tank from a reputable company and had it installed by one of their approved distributors in a town close to us, a couple of months ago

The low fuel warning light and chime now comes on when there is still over 10 gallons left in the tank and remains persistent for the next 160 miles... Annoying.

The 34 gallon OEM tank chimed at 1/8th of a tankful with about four gallons left... Much more reasonable and acceptable.

Has anybody dealt with this issue and found a good way to recalibrate the system? Is there an easy back yard fix, or does it involve special equipment or tools?

Please advise.

Thanx.

I would think that taking the sending unit out of the tank, and bending the float wire so that the float can get closer to the floor of the tank would solve that problem.

Course, then the gauge would read full for a much longer time than it really was...

How about extending the length of the float wire so that it can fully sweep from top to bottom of tank within range of the sending unit?
