Whats a reasonable one to get? Does anyone have experience with the units from northerntool?

Looking for 40-50 gallons to install in my 92 D250 longbed

I have a 45 gallon and love the security it affords. Just a reminder, any time you haul more then 100 gal. you must have a hazzardus matterial license. And all the crap that goes with it... just so you know.

I have the Northern 60 gal combo and love it, one thing I did before I installed it was to weld a 1/2" npt tap on the bottom corner left side so I could feed my pump from there down on the frame rail, I purchased a fuel level sending unit from Westech and ran a gauge into the cab, now my oem tank is for transfer. The setup is working great and the lift pump is now a supply pump cuz it aint liftin crap but has instead a positive supply feeding it... ... ... see my sig for all the details.

Cheers, Kevin

I looked at a lot of tanks before I got my Aero 45 Gal. in-the-bed tank a couple of years ago. What killed all of the tanks except Aero for me was shipping. It always ended up adding too much to the total, whereas I could drive to Aero Tank, which is not too far from me.

I actually wanted to go with Northern, but their shipping was too much. But that was 2 years ago, maybe they have changed their policy.

aug. fuel tank

I am on my third cdt. and have built fuel tanks for all of them. go to any bi truck wrecking yard. buyone of the alum. tanks. 50-60-80-100-120- gal. cut them lenth wise across the bottom. weld in a flat alum. plate or have a welding shop do it for you. the total price for any of the three that i have built is $150. just scroung around a little.

I recently installed one of the Transfer Flow 70 gallon Express-UFS tanks advertised on the back cover of the last issue of the TDR magazine.

Transfer Flow's tanks are not cheap but they are well-engineered and well built. Their tanks meet federal and state requirements and have been tested for crashworthiness.

The tank I bought includes a mini-computer and fuel transfer pump. The mini-computer is tied into the factory fuel tank gauge wiring so that it senses fuel level in the factory tank. When the fuel level in the factory tank is reduced to around 3/8 full the auxilary tank's transfer pump is activated. It transfers fuel until the factory tank is about 3/4 full then is turned off.

With the TF tank I have a range of about 1300-1500 miles towing without fueling. I can pass all the fuel stations with high prices, can even pass entire states with high fuel taxes. It works great.
