I, recently, purchased an Oilguard Bypass Filter for my '03. Also, have a Borg-Warner 5-1/2"X 11"X 1-1/2" auxillary oil cooler on the shelf, at home. I live in the Desert SW (Phoenix, AZ. ). It's HOT!!!

I was thinking of adding the cooler in the filters return line. Figured the cooler might do more good on my truck than on the shelf.

My buddy thought the oil might be getting too much cooling with this additional filter & it would be something else to go wrong with the system.

Does the stock oil cooler cool enough in the desert & mountain driving?

I'd appreciate some opinions from the "experts" in engine oil cooling.

Thanks.

if you have the parts on hand, go for it. . the stock oil cooler does a pretty good job of getting the lube oil down to close to jacket water temprature. myself, i would prefer having the lube oil cooler than the water temp. . for the flow that would go through the bypass filter, you will definately not overcool the oil

I put a cooloer on the bypass filter in my setup... it doesn't flow enough oil to cool enough to make a difference... and while there is a temperature drop, I don't think there is enough volume to really make a difference. .
