We just returned from a long 1600 mile road trip, trans seemed to run on the warm side when pulling a grade as engine temp would climb quickly (no trans temp gauge yet).

Has anybody installed an aux cooler and if so, where was it located and plumbed? Might need a tighter converter as well.

Eric,

There was a super cooler option that was available from the dealer when the trucks were new. It was a fan assisted cooler about 14" square that mounted under the bed on the drivers side. Was forward of the rear wheel and was mounted in a horizontal position with the fan on top pulling air up thru it. (At least that is how mine is set up). The fan was thermostat controlled and I think the temp it turned on was 180. I also put a switch on to bypass the thermostat so I could turn the fan on when towing in the mountains BEFORE the heat came up in the transmission system.

These coolers are no longer available from the dealers but there is one almost like it that is available from either JEGS or Summit auto parts. Do a search and you should find this info.

Hope this helps
