spare relays

Ok, so I've taken the advice of purchasing a Painless auxilary fuse block (70103). The directions say to find a key hot fuse in the oe fuse block to control the relay. No problem there but how does one route a wire inside the cover without putting a notch in it, which I don't want to do. Or is there a better place to find key-hot for my relay?

Thanks for the help,

I'm with you on that! The guy who was helping me with the onboard air last week did just that!!! He tapped into an empty fuse socket, and cut a notch in the lid at the seal. He ran the wire through the loom over the core support to the passenger side to a relay for the compressor we mounted on the passenger firewall.

I has asked RBatelle about actually tapping into the factory fuse block from the under side for some driving lights, and he wasn't sure, but I'm guessing he can fugure it out.

hhhhhmmmmmmmmmm I havent been able to find anything that I would want to tap into for ignition power other than in the fuse center under the hood. the 2nd gens were easy with the fuse panel inside of the cab. As for tapping into the factory loom underneeth the fuse center under the hood, I suppose that it could be done, however with the new TIPM in the newer trucks you have to be carefull no matter where you put stuff.

Try the Cigarette lighter circuit

The cigarette lighter circuit is usually hot when the key is ON or in the ACC position. Its easy to check and is usually fused at 20 amps. I used it on both the 97 and the 03. On the 03 it did not go through the Front control Module. Ken Irwin

Thanks guys for the input. It seems logical to use the factory fuse block to add accessories especially when they have 'spare' fuses in it. Maybe that's asking too much. I don't even want to pull power through the oe fuse block I just want that tickle to trip my relay have a clean wiring job.

I may just have to settle for tapping into the cigarette lighter wires under the dash if one those is key-hot.

Thanks,

yup, this is what we did. The compressor is mounted on the pasenger firewall, and wired directly to the passenger battery. The wire tapped into the fuse blocked pulls the relay.

I know there's someone out there that is more anal than I am who has figured out the oe fuse block. That said, it is time to get the job done... Until I know how to do it better. Thanks for the help... can't get enough of TDR

my truck is an 04. I have 6 or 7 spare relay holes. I want to run my ignition wire for my gauges to a relay in the fuse panel. Where is the load wire? Is it in the harness under the fuse panel?
