TOWING RAM 4 DOWN ?

Status
Not open for further replies.
I bought a new 2018 Ram 3500 in September of 2017. I was directed to a supplier that had the Cat auxillary fuel filter setup for under the box. I need that suppliers name and if I remember correctly, it wasn't Genos Garage. Who can help me?

The factory fuel filtration system is superb. My 2014 RAM 3500 was still going strong on factory injectors at 362k miles with OEM filters.

Why chance a warranty denial by adding something to supposedly fix something that isn’t even broken? o_O

Stick to FleetGuard, MOPAR and Raycor for aLL your filtration needs!!! The best of the best and will NOT void your warranty. AMAZON & Geno's.

They don't F around any longer with warranty claims!!!

The older trucks such as the gen 3 trucks did have a poor filtration arrangement from the factory. Most of the add on kits are intended for these trucks. I have one myself. But for the gen 4 design, Ram has addressed the issue impressively (but not cheaply!) I doubt you’ll find anyone tampering with the OEM setup.

I don't know where you got the idea that I am tampering with the filtration system on my truck. I am adding a secondary filter. That doesn't void warranty. If you don't know the answer to the question, why is it so hard to just scroll by without giving your opinion? And if my comment starts a **** storm, so be it.

Why would you add a secondary filter to a truck that has a RAYCOR filter already on it??? PLUS engine mounted unit.

Take a look at a truck with a RAYCOR on it. The engine mounted filter still looks new when replacing at 15-20k.
Stick to the RAYCOR and NanoNet FleetGuard/MOPAR filters and you will never have a filtering issue.

Hey Tractorhauler-

I doubt that kit is an authorized alteration. If you really think you need it, well okay then- tamper away!
I was just saying your truck is much better off than mine was and I waited till I was out of warranty until I did anything.

I'll try to find the link for you. I think it's just called diesel fuel filters. If we are referring to the same set up, it uses the driver seat bolts to support the flange. It uses Cat filter 3Um and Baldwin water separator. I'll try to post the link.

I know some feel strongly about not touching the factory system and the 13+ system is much better than the prior but after 20k miles my filter still looked new after installing this kit. Some have concerns about the filters in the extreme cold. I haven't had any issues in the mid Atlantic climate.

Cheers,

The Raycor filter under the bed is 10 Micron the Engine mounted filter is 7 micron on the outer first stage and I believe I had read on here (TDR) somewhere 2 micron on the inner 2nd stage. It's two filters in one. You don't need any more filtration. Unless your supplier is pumping mud into your tank.

IMO, Some Spin-ons are over rated and over price, The Cat Filter is just one of many that can't hold its weight in dirt, The Factory Setup on 13+ addresses the problem.
The factory Engine mounted Filter is well designed and is very robust filter.

That being said adding filters in the factory setup is just NOT necessary.

If you want to put the effort and $$$$ into additional filtration , theirs two ways to do it . Auxiliary filtration or bypass.

If your going to add auxiliary you should consider making it the backup to factory system, if your the 1 in a million to have the factory in tank fail under 10 years.

The Auxiliary system Pictured has automated fuel heating and is manual filtration and Backup Lift/feed for factory setup.

That's a really nice set up you have there! My motives didn't stem from a lack of filtration (even though I in a 12) but from the high cost of the nanonet factory filters. At 75 dollars each this kit will pay for itself in 2 years.

It does give a warm and fuzzy feeling when you open the filter and it's hardly brown at all - extending change intervals.

In my Diesel marine days, we used a aqua-zorb hydraulic filter. Good stuff.
