I am looking to install a RDS Aux tank in my truck but I am looking to set it up to manually transfer So I need to find a fitting to tap into the filler neck hose. Any one know where you can get one of those? Any input would be great.

Thanks

You can buy a "Y" fitting to allow pumping fuel into the tank via the rubber vent hose from Transfer Flow, popular manufacturer of a large volume of aux fuel tanks. Their tanks aren't bad either. I've been using one for about eight years.

Northern Tool sells this kit as I purchased one when I installed an RDS tool/fuel combo years back in my rig. Check out their website and search for item #3490901. $70+shipping. I have been using mine since 2004 with good results.

We've done it 2 ways... . on all the 3500 Dually's.....

In all the tanks we've added to our trucks... we've come out of the additional tank with a 3/8" line through an electric pump... out of the electric pump is a 1/2 lb back check valve so that the system can't siphon from the aux tank into the main tank. . Than through a 7 micron filter.....

In the filler of the main tank we've installed and either soldered or epoxied a 3/8" barb hose fitting... . on those fillers that are steel we solder the brass fitting into the filler, on those fillers that are aluminum coated steel, or aluminuniezed or what ever the term is. . we epoxy the brass fitting in... .

On our 5500 we installed a 80 gal frame mounted tank and before we installed the bed we removed the pump connection and pump from the stock plastic tank and installed a bulkhead fitting in the side of the tank... . we installed this fitting about 2 - 3" below the bottom of the new tank installation... re-installed the pump and connections... we run out of the new frame mounted tank into the side of the stock tank. . they both gravity flow but because the new frame mounted tank is just above the stock tank, no pump or valve is required... . all these fittings were 1/2" pipe... . this system self levels... .

I am inclined to just buy the Y fitting as I would prefer to be able to manually control the fuel transfer, and if needed I will definitely put a pump and filter in between the aux tank, and the main tank. I just don't like an automatic accessory, I prefer to manually perform the switchover

The filler nozzle and vent line are easily removed, loosen two hose clamps and remove about three screws. I removed mine and brazed 1/2 of a 1/4" threaded pipe coupling on. you could drill out the hole before or after the brazing, just mark where you want the fitting before you remove the nozzle from truck. This is the third one I have done with no problems. bg

I did similar to B. G. Smith. Except I used a 1/4 pipe thread 3/8 hose Barb. I cut the threaded portion off and rounded it a bit to conform to the filler neck, then brazed it in place. You can then run a drill bit down the hole in the barb fitting and drill it out. Marking the fill tube before you remove it with a sharpie pen takes the guess work out of it. I built an aluminum box that is bolted under the bed near the filler area and put in the pump, switch and filter. A cover held in place with a few screws keeps the road grime and slop out. A good pump from napa to use is # P4601HP. It will pump diesel good in cold weather. My son made me a 65 gallon transfer tank. When not pulling a trailer I can get from my house in Anchorage to Dawson Creek with out filling up, 1,633 miles.

Like that idea, although I may just pump it through the filler necj until I have time to get it done, thngs are getting tight time wise. I hope to use that fe when gong through the Yukon myself.

Thanks,

I've got 60 gallon Aero Tanks tanks on both of my trucks. When loaded with a Lance camper, that's enough to get me from cheap(er) fuel in Whitehorse to cheap fuel at the Flying-J in Ft. St. John. That's over 800 miles at 15+ MPG.

These replace the OEM plastic tanks, so there's no transfer issue.

I use an electric Pollak 6 port switching valve with my 60gal. RDS tank/toolbox combo. No need to add additional filtration that way either. Still haven't gotten it installed in the '99 yet... ... ... . Was in the '97 before.
