In the process of adding some lights to the rear (2x55w), but I need to know what is a good ACCessory fuse to tap in to? I am using a relay but need to know this to hook a switch up to ACC circuit so I won't end up accidently leaving lights on. I'd imagine the switch side of a relay draws little, but just checking to see what you guys say.

Thanx,

Johnny5

I tapped off the wire to the stock back-up light for power to run the coil side of the relay. But I ran a wire up to the cab and mounted a switch in line with the coil in the dash cubby above the shifter to turn them off in case I didn't want to use them (has never occurred in 2 years!).

For the power feed to the lights, I tapped directly off the battery and put the relay with an in-line fuse on the inside fender right next to the PDC on the driver's side. Then ran that back to the lights.

Hope this helps,

-Jay

My key switched accessories are tapped into the wire on the back of the lighter. If it can run a lighter, it can run a few relays.

What sort of relay are you guys useing and why? I'd like to tie into the backups too but am electrically ignorant. Also, if tied to the backups, can you have them on and not be in rev?

I wired the relay for my back-up lights off of the battery for the main feed to the relay and tapped off of the parking lights for the relay trigger wire. This prevents the lights from operating when the truck lights are off. I have a switch mounted below the drivers seat to activate the lights.

Lot of good ideas, got the "why" and saved Jim's dwg to my hd. I'm gona try to make it 1) so I can have them on if I'm out working behind the truck, 2) so that they come on when I shift to rev, 2a) but only if the head lights are on.
