Avatars (again)

Not intending to start a war but is there any possibility of turning Avatars back on? I really liked seeing them before. If the slow connection folks had a way to turn them off that would make everyone happy. Perhaps have the Avatar only come up on the first post like the signatures do now.

Unfortunately, we have no plans to turn avatars back on. It is a bandwidth (cost and service) issue. They've been off for about two years now. They were driving slow page load times on the forums which is a particular problem for people still using dial-up accounts (until November, 2003, the TDR offices were still on dial-up . . . ouch!). And we already exceed our bandwith budget by a sizeable amount. We're buying about twice as much bandwidth each month as we were a year ago. That is GREAT for information flow, but it reeks havoc on the budget.



I hope this helps explain our situation adequately.
