AW Flash

I just read on this forum that the AW flash is now available. Does anybody know the reason for it?

I'm Not sure what this flash is for, but i keep having that P0128 code popping up so they went ahead and cleared the code and re-flashed my truck with the most current software(AW)... . Dealer is gonna call chrysler tommorrow and find out why i keep throwin that code...

I just read on this forum that the AW flash is now available. Does anybody know the reason for it?

That's how they fixed my P242b code and CEL this afternoon was with the AW reflash. Hopefully the CEL will now stay off. I just had the AV reflash done on 11/28. Hopefully these reflashes wont be a monthly thing for months and months.

Reflash

I for one do not care how many reflashes need to be performed. Each reflash brings us closer to the real item. Eventually there will come a time when like any other Cummins all will be well. Getting everything including the Environmental Equipment to work in the real everyday world is a good deal more difficult than the simulations or test environment the cost accountants and the sales managers force the hardware Engineers to work in.

Real nuts and bolts Engineers much prefer to work with the real world as opposed to the Simulation Labs and closed box Test Environments, HOWEVER it takes longer and costs more and is not as neat or tidy as a financial spreadsheet with all the numbers rounded off to suit the accountants and sales people. Been there done that for 42 years.

All that being said I am just as impatient as the next person for the 6. 7 to be at the stage where the 5. 9 was in its final form.

How to apply a flash

I'm no professional wrench twister, but I can get by. I am a rather experience computer professional though and I'm wondering why I need to go to a dealer to apply a flash. I do it all the time on other solid state devices.



Can someone explain how the dealers apply a flash and what technology they use in the process. Is there a 3rd party device out there that one can obtain to read and write to the truck's ECM (correct me if this isn't the device that gets flashed!)

To perform a reflash it is essential that you have access to the code to be reflashed, and this is not going to happen with proprietary software.
Plus there are a whole host of legal issues concerning safety and the environment.
I had the AX reflash done while the truck was in for unrelated service.

AX Reflash, 12-02-2008, The first thing I observed with the current reflash is the different way it processes the Active Regen. I the past if Regen was called for the EGT would immediately jump to 1200 - 1300 degrees and stay there until the regen was complete (nominal 15 minutes) with the AX Reflash it is much different. First it does go to 1200 degrees but about 30 seconds later it drops to 1100 degrees for about 5 seconds and goes back to 1200 degrees for another 30 seconds. The regen process repeats this action for about 10 minutes then it allows the temperature to reach 1300 to 1360 on each cycle.
Now the total Active Regen time is about 13 minutes as opposed to the previous 15 minutes. One other note the milage on the over head does not take a nose dive as in previous versions.
Now for the good news, the milage is now 18-19 MPG which it has not seen since before the July A and B revisions when the milage took a nose dive in favour of excessive Active Regeneration.
One other added note in spite of always filling up at a high volume Flying J station I have experienced some bad lots of fuel which has plugged my fuel filter, causing what feels like a miss in firing. There is no question now that better fuel filtering is in order. This has been a severe problem up North where the fuel can be over a year old and of questionable storage conditions.
