Can anyone tell me if the info I got from the Dealer is right or wrong? I was told that from 2003 thru to date if you have a 2500 Ram “standard” rear axle (open) then you will a have a 10. 5" ring gear no matter what engine you have gas or diesel. If this is not right please tell me where you got your info from and how I can verify it. My truck has the 11. 5” but I have the optional real end. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Don

I have an 2003 2500 4x4 with the 11. 5 rear end, only the gas and the SO diesel with the 5spd or auto have the 10. 5 rear end. All the HO diesels with 6spd had the 11. 5. In 2003 there is a sticker in the Passager glove box that should had the powertrain specs.

Plus the side of the engine has a sticker to tell you the engine HP which had three chooses the CA 235HP and the 250HP were SOs with only autos and 5spd and the HO was 305HP.

All of the 3rd gen. diesel trucks have the 11. 5, stick or auto. All of the 2500 hemi trucks have the 10. 5 rear end, including the 1500 mega cab with a 8 lug bolt pattern.

I have an early 03 with the SO/Auto. It has the 10. 5 just like Black Pearl said.

That's not 100% true. As stated above ,there were some early 3rd gen CTD's that did have a 10. 5" rear axle.

There is no doubt however, that when the 2004. 5 600HO was introduced, the only rear axle available with the CTD was the 11. 5". Dodge's website adds to the confusion. If you spec a 2500 on the "build it" site, it will show 10. 5".

check the sticker in the gloves boxe, all information about your trucks!

I do apologize and feel sorry for the people that have the 10. 5 in their diesels, I have been gearing these trucks for as long as they have been around and have never come across one with the 10. 5. I know that doesn't mean they don't exist they are probably just rare. My 03 was built late in 02 (October) and it does have a 11. 5 in it. Another thing I noticed is when I hooked up to a scan tool to re-calibrate the speedo it told me I had the 10. 5 rear end in it?? Sorry about the bad info guys, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Hey Jason, why do you feel sorry for us 10. 5ers? Were all of the previous diesels equipped with an 11. 5? I am not sure what they had, but I have not heard of a mass failure of the 10. 5. Or is their something I should know?

Hey Randy your 10. 5 should be allright. I have seen some broken ones in my time but I never have seen a 11. 5 broken yet. The 10. 5 is a big diff and the older 2nd gens had Dana 70's which are a 10. 5 also. And manuals had the Dana 80 (11. 5). I wouldn't worry, but there is a reason DC stopped using 10. 5's in the diesels. I just feel bigger is better and that some of you guys got cheated out of the 11. 5. Nothing to worry about. I am sorry if I scared anyone with a 10. 5!

Don't feel sorry for me. I'm not worried and I didn't get cheated. I love everything about my truck and wouldn't change a thing.

Why some people feel the need to put down the standard output trucks and 10. 5" axles is beyond me.
