I would like some idea's on this axle repair. I have a 2500 4x4 and have found it to be leaking at the spindle end on the right hand side. Is this a major repair or a simple seal change?? Any info is welcomed. Thank you. Perry  '96 2500 4x4 ext cab, white & driftwood, LWB, SLT. RS 9'k's. Air Lift bags rear. Prime Loc. Plate up grade. 5-speed. 265's w/ AR's 136's. Bolin CB mount. Mopar soft bed cover. Rhino lined. ( not bombed to bad yet).

Perry, If the leak happened just after work on the front end, such as brake rotor replacement, it will most likely stop on it's own. Just wait it out. Another possibility is that vent line is clogged, it comes off the passenger side axle housing ending up near the air box. Easy way to check the vent is to drive the truck for awhile then open the fill plug on the differential while listening for air hissing out. Make sure the differential isn't overfilled at the same time, the truck must be level side to side and front to rear. If it is a bad seal it is just the seal that needs replacement, problem is it's location, it goes in from inside the differential housing, the differential guts and axle will need to be removed and special tools will be needed. The passenger side is harder to do than the drivers. While you can fabricate your own tools easily I find that it is one of the few jobs left to the dealer, they charge around $150 and it is well worth it.

thank you, I will wait for awhile (new rotors installed )

Mine just started to leak also on my 99 4x4 @30Kmiles. Luckily it still was under warrenty. It took the dealership, 2 tries to get it fixed. :( It seems to be fine now. Apparently the tension spring on the lip seal broke???? both times. I know ours are different years but they might have had the same problem. You might want to search around the board for instructions on how to remove the hub and axle if you are into self repair. Good luck.
