Thanks, TDR Staff

anyone have experience with work-n-play trailers?

hitch height?

What gear ratio are you running? I have 3. 54's and 36" tires. This has been good enough thus far. However, about a year ago I bought a 36' toy hauler trailer. Unloaded I tipped the scales at just under 20K lbs. I estimate another 2K-4K lbs. when loaded (without 120 gals. water).

Needless to say, a gear change is in order. I talked with Stefan at DTT, to inquire about towing in OD. He said that it is fine as long as RPM's are over 1800.

What do you think?

I think you'd be ok, esp with your transmission mods. Get a transmission temp gauge, and keep an eye on temps, if you dont already have one. Modern ODs are stornger than they were 15-20 years ago. I towed with an auto (518 in a 92 D350) all summer a few years ago. Not quite as heavy as you are, more like 16K GCVW. Never had any problems. Still going 100K later.

I feel my 3. 73's and 33" tires are pretty much as tall as I can go for towing in OD.

Try this link to run some calcs on the tire size you want and if you plan to tow in OD or not to get the ratio needed.

I have a 6psd so can't help you much. If my rpm's drop down I just gear down to 5th if loaded and climbing a hill. I can't say but I have been told the 4:10 ratio is the way to go in an auto for frequent towing. Again, please don't yell at me this is just what I have been told.
