2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Axle Seals

I've had the right axle seal replaced twice in about 5000 miles. On my way back from Phoenix, it started leaking again, as did the left one.



I have a Mag Hytec cover on the differential. It is not overfilled according to the dipstick. Is it possible that by filling it all the way up to the full mark, that there is too much fluid and causing an over pressure to the seals?



I checked the vent and it seemed to be unobstructed.



For the record, I am using Amsoil 75-140.

Don't know about the Magtec cover, but with the factory fill the full point is 3/4" below the fill port. If you top it off, the seals will leak for about 2 weeks. Doesn't blow them out, just forces too much oil to the seals and the excess weeps by.



However I would definitely put whoever changed the seal on notice that you are having an issue (assuming the work is under warranty) such that you can reserve any repairs if the leaking does not stop.

I've run the lube 'til it runs out the hole and never had a leak on any of my Dana 80 axles (3 trucks), except this '96 which already had a bad seal (high miles). After replacment it's been staying dry. Did it myself, not that hard.
