axle socket

Does anyone know whether the 2 9/16 axle nut socket for the rear is 6 pt or 8pt I need to get one but the guy say's they make 6 and a8 pt one and I don't want to have to unbolt the axle to find out

6 point. It's a special socket, stamped steel, thin wall.

It is a 6 point, i had to purchase one a fe months back, got mine through Oreilly's auto parts, Napa said they had no such in stock or in the computer... . Mine was the high end, 30$...

Napa carries it. It's an OTC brand tool. I don't remember the part # anymore. I paid just over $20.
