Hello people, I'm new here. Been lurking and learning for a couple of months now. I'll try to keep this short as possable. Our Interstate roads are a bit rough here in southern Ky. and I was thinking about adding a front axle truss for support due to weight and suspension stiffnes. Tried a search but missed something. Thanks in advance. " Whiskers" is what they call me on the radio. Looking forward to all replies. Thanks again.

The front diff is strong enough unless you combine rough use with added weight such as heavy bumper, winch etc. I am ambivalent about trusses because I like the ground clearance so I can dodge rocks with the pumpkin missing them.

Perhaps a more serious potential problem comes from "jumping" the turck or other severe use--the Cummins is heavy and I have a short block in my garage that has the engine mount ears broken off it, and a dent across the oil pan from the frame crossmember. When the truck landed, the engine broke loose and fell onto the crossmember.

I guess I feel if the suspension is left compliant enough and usage is "reasonable" there isn't too much need for a truss. If the use is very rough, probably you will trade one weak area for another.

Hope this helps.
