I just had the AY flash update. Economy dropped about 1 to 1. 5 mpg cruising 60-65 mph with no load using hand calculated method. All filters new, tires at correct right pressure, same brand fuel, etc.

Best economy was with pre-AX flashes, but seems their capability of plugging everything up was worse.

I heard it's supposed to be less sensitive to turbo boost pressure changes (P2262) and shuts off EGR at idle, but haven't seen any publications yet.

I have noticed the same thing. AY is supposed to address the sooting problem is what I'm told.

Here is my story with the AY Reflash.
Key to the process did the Tech use the boot loader process?
The 07 requires the bootloader approach as the ECM memory is not sufficient to handle an update with out first erasing the portion of memory reserved for operation.
After a reflash it takes about 3 days of driving for the ECM to settle down as it has to relearn your style of driving, before you will see any improvement. (a days driving assumes at least 300 Km) I have 187,000 Km on my stock 6. 7.
Had the AY on Monday 08-09-2008.
First the AY should require the boot loader to install the new software.
The Software installed did not interrupt the power, clocks unchanged, overhead remained as it was before the reflash.
I knew something was wrong.
The first thing it did was go into a regen which lasted over 30 minutes and temperatures reached in excess of 1500 degrees
The second thing is did was decrease the fuel economy by 5 MPG
I returned to the dealer on Wednesday 10-09-2008 after a long run to prove the first symptoms were not just a hiccup.
Shop foreman performed the REINSTALL of AY himself.
Yes the clocks required resetting.
Yes the Consul had to relearn the milage
Yes the fuel economy is more predictable.
I do Know the First INSTALL WAS CORRUPT and the dealer has reinstalled it and it appears more as to be expected now.
I have another run toady.
This time the milage has returned to the more typical 20 MPG. The first Active Regen was the normal 10 minutes at 1200 degrees.
However the regen on the return was also a De-soot of the Cat.
This is where the AY has changed the routine.
First part of the regen cycle is the 10 minutes at 1200 degree followed by the boost going to 20 PSI followed by the EGT going to 1500 degrees this was repeated several time for a duration of approx 5 minutes. Total Active Regen cycle of 15 minutes.
In spite of this the milage was 20 MPG running at 60 MPH
The boot loader is the application used in the 2007 6. 7 litre ECM to erase a portion of the memory before uploading the new flash. The first time they did not use the bootloader with the result the new flash over wrote the existing firmware corrupting the program.
This is what made the first attempt of the AY upload run so badly.
The 2007 requires the reflash to us a bootloader to first erase a portion of the ECM memory then the new software is uploaded into this empty place in memory.
The 2008 has the bootloader onboard the ECM and does not require a separate step.
So it appears the AY does some good, in that it does run a hotter De-Soot cycle for the purpose of cleansing the CAT (NOx Absorber) I still do not like the High EGT's used but it is a fact of life with a stock 6. 7
Active Regen state is determined by reading the EGT Gauge, this was installed by dealer to assist me in keeping any eye on monitoring the behaviour of the truck. I have a pillar triple mount which includes Boost, EGT & Transmission Temp.
Active Regeneration takes place at 1200 degrees.
The normal operating temperature of the 6. 7 is 960 to 1000 depending on the truck and or gauge.
The normal duration for the Regen cycle is 10 minutes at 1200. There is also a NOx (CAT) absorber cleans which will take the temperatures in excess of 1300 degrees in cycles of 1000 to in excess of 1300 with the current AY flash this cycle is vastly exaggerated by first taking a big gulp of air, the boost gauge will go up to 15-20 PSI then back off, as it backs off the EGT will quickly go up to 1500 degrees for 30 seconds then dip back to 1000 degrees it repeats this process for about 5 minutes then drops back to the normal operation temperature.
It can be quite alarming the first time you see these temperatures. Yes if you begin climbing a hill it will use the power to climb the hill as part of the cleans how ever going down a hill it will do its own thing. Those who pull heavy trailers will notice less active regeneration as the higher EGT's of pulling will normally take care of the soot accumulation by means of the passive regeneration process which while lower in temperatures the engine must be working harder than running empty (Higher EGT's)
More positive news I have begun to see an occasional 21-22 MPG

Well, if these new trucks can just stay out of the shop, I think Dodge / Cummins probably will have a winner!

I am waiting on the sidelines for now, the 01. 5 is still running good, lots of good deals on 08's now, VERY tempting, BUT I think I might wait until the new body style comes out and buy a 2011 in the fall of 2010, gives a couple of more years to work out the emission bugs and a year or so for the bugs to be worked out of the new body style, after market parts to become available, etc.

Hey guy's I have been trying something and thought I would pass it on now so far I have seen a increaseof 2mpg in town by just unpluging the EGR valve plug yes you will get a cel but no biggy still runs great and no Ill affect's try it it will help some anyway .

I had the same issue. . My economy went down 1-1. 5mpg as well. the truck was really fun to drive for two days and then it got back to the same old crap. .
