Short story :)

My 07 which I purchase as a used vehicle knowing well what I was in for as far as Chrysler trying to correct a problem with emissions on these trucks.

What I did not know was that this truck had already been worked on by an unqualified dealer and I unknowingly took it to an unqualified dealer.

So after 3 weeks stay in 2 visits at my local dealer all new EGR and Parts and new Turbo and parts and who knows how many sensors I get a CEL and P040b code. I proceeded to make a Christmas vacation trip from the Texas Gulf Coast to Wisconsin and back. The truck performed flawlessly and averaged 16 MPG.

When I got back I took it to a new dealer who so far has proved to be more than qualified to service our trucks. They found out in the first few minutes that the vehicle had been flashed by a previous dealer when it was almost new with a program for a Cab & Chassis truck and was causing all kinds of things to go wrong. They could not understand how all the other techs that had serviced it had not caught this.

Anyway, they replaced the ECM, cleaned the turbo and sensors, reflashed to AZ.

First thing I noticed was that I no longer hear the cooling fan howling at all times and all temperatures which one dealer had said was normal.

The engine is quiet and very strong. :)

The exaust brake did nothing I immediately called the dealer who said if there is no CEL there was nothing he could do and it was probably just the AZ flash. BUT, the next day my service writer called and said the tech would like for me to drop by as he found some "back doors" in the update and wanted to check something. Long story shortened:) he had found that the AZ flash had turned off my Ebrake but provides a window in which to enable it again.

Finally all is running great BUT my fuel mileage is down to 13/14 MPG:rolleyes:

but I understand there is a new flash due out any day so I get to go leave my truck at the dealer for another day!

It is kind of hit or miss with changing the ECM and loosing the brake enable. Not sure the logic for turning it off with the flash when all the engines have a brake.

It is very easy to miss if not test driven with the brake on, but also easy to enable.

Our first impression of the factory exhaust brake wasn't good... but read on... .

We have an 08 5500 with an automatic transmission and we've installed a lot of exhaust brakes... we've noticed on the 08 that unless the tow/haul button is depressed the exhaust brake comes on but is worthless... .

The pressing of the tow/haul button seems to lock the TC so that the power from the rear wheels can pass through the transmission and be absorbed by the engine...

Make sure your in tow/haul mode..... and we've noticed that the more load on the truck the better it works... . we think it functions as well as the PacBrake we sell for the 5. 9L...

Now as Sag2 says. . if the dealer didn't turn it on... than it needs to be done... please also understand that this is our first automatic after a lot of sticks. . so you might be past this step... .

The dealer has reenabled my Ebrake and it is working great. I have not loaded the truck as of yet but I enjoy the brake even in daily driving and yes you can tell a big difference when in Tow/Haul.
