Just finished my B-1 install and the truck just doesn't seem to like it. I know that sounds stupid, but it runs real funny:confused: I finished the install and headed home from work. Took it real easy as I made my way through town towards the freeway. I was just listening for anything unusual. Everything seemed okay until I started to merge onto the freeway, then it feel like the the engine was cutting in and out, kind of studdering. I was on 1X1 so I bumped it up to 2X3 just to check, still the same. It was so noticable that I pulled over to check things out. I had also installed my turbo temp monitor at this time but couldn't see how this would matter either. I made a quick visual and it all looked good, not to much to check since I didn't touch that much. I headed back out and still a spookey hesitation/studder/bucking almost. :{ I leaned into her a little and the problem cleared up at higher boost and rpm. I did a little 5X5 and she seemed happier, but still doesn't sound right. Did I miss something? I mean this is not a complicated job. The only thing I can come up with is the exhaust, which was a real pain in the butt, could be rubbing/hitting the body somewhere and causing some weird sounds, but the engine doesn't feel right. Maybe not enought fuel? It seems that I should be okay, just thought I would ask. One more thing. At idle in gear, the resonation is really loud now, is this a normal result of the B-1? Sorry so long, but there is no one out here to ask. Thanks.

Sound strange.....

Maybe you should send it down to me to check out:D I could swap you my HX-35 if it makes you happy :D :D

I'm sure KwikKurt has an answer for you.

It sounds like the connection for your comp box is not secure. You'll get problems like this if the connection is not acceptable.

The BI is probably not the problem. Call Kurt if you like But I'd check the connections first.

FWIW,

Mark Kendrick

check the tubo... there is a wastegate bolt that must go on the turbo as it is not a blind hole and it will vent exh gas if its not installed

DevilDog..... LOL

LoneRam,

Sounds like your exhaust is hitting / rubbing somewhere..... It can make sounds like anything between a slight resonation to the engine coming apart..... Kurt 505-534-0434...

P. S. I will be sending a Bill for the Rain!! ;)

I'm with Mark Kendrick on this one--how does it run with the box turned off--that's how I drive around 98% of the time and no problems---if it runs right--then it's your box--

Brandon's point should be heeded- did you put the bolt in the wastegate to keep it from opening---this could be the noise or it could be from the exhaust rubbing on something---good luck... . chris

No Problem

Did lots of thinking last night and on my way to work this morning agreed with myself that it's the exhaust rubbing on the frame/cab. I called Kurt anyways and he agreed. The bolt is in the exhaust housing and I have the smaller kwikspool housing. Thanks for the reply's. I was just a little nervous. Devildog-thanks for the offer, maybe next time:D The turbo is great for anybody interested. Big difference from the HY-35. I haven't had much time to play since it started raining before I finished and all the way home. I little fun this morning. 45psi on 5X5. Still waiting for my cryo'd shafts before I really get on it. Thanks again.

Just thought I'd say

I found the culpret. One of the hangers was positioned in such a way that it was pressed against the floor of the cab, the one for the crossbeam. Anyways, repositioned and :-laf Oo. :-laf back in bussiness. This is the first B-1/DTT equiped CTD in the state. Can't wait to see a couple:--) at the many stop lights and then the:{ in the rear view mirror. Thanks for the replies.

Lone Ram,

I was wondering what kind of EGT's you are seeing with the comp on 5x5? How fast to 1500*? Also how much difference in lag is there? I have the same truck with, I think, the same set up,

except for the cryod shafts:D Kurt called me the other day and I didn't have time to call him back about the Kwikspool B1. Thanks

When I had DD3s EGTs a 5x5 run had to go for a half mile or better to climb to 1500 and would top out at 1550. I had the 14-16cm housing but he has DD2s so they should be similar. I know Kurt did not have EGT problems w/the small housing either(DD3s).

I now have fire hoses with fine spray nozzles and EGTs get hot in 6th gear but they are 2-300hp custom injectors. They are big enough that you can't cruise on 5x5. . it runs rough there but the rest of the settings:--) :--) :--) :--) :D :D

the tight b1 spools incredibly getting near HX35/12 speed... unreal!!!!!! if not in 4x4 those 4 back tires are punished well into 5th gear. 4x4 is real hard on the neck:D

I just can't say enough good things about the B1s.

Later,

Mark

Mark,

With that fancy coating you are looking at $17 to $18 bucks. Wow.

I am starting to lean to the B1. I have a Piersified HX 40 coming from Fred. I have committed to him long ago. I still want it. Looks like I'll have to wait for Feburary. That is when I plan to have the DD cam installed. Kind of a late Bday Xmas present. :D

I'm sure she'll understand. " I need it real bad" :{ "the truck will pull your horses so much better honey. " yea right, I'll have to try and slide those two in under the rug..... Greg

Mark -

Since you have had both housings on the B1 ... does the smaller housing make it any louder on the exhaust side?

The coolest sounding turbo I have ever had/heard was my KwikSpool HX40 w/12cm² housing..... that was a mean sounding turbo even at IDLE!

Just curious... ... . I am waiting on a batch of smaller housings to come in, then I'll have a B1 on my truck again (my old B1 is going on Floor It's truck).

Speaking of the B-1, I drove down to Mark Kendricks folks place in Oklahoma today to checkout the B-1! Nice turbo, clean, BIG for a truck (Still like a 106 MM better:D ) Then we went for a drive, LAG I can't believe that anyone would think about that, that thing spools like now, absolutely no lag what so ever! I have a 35/16 and I think mine spools fast now but I believe this one has it beat. Nice sound with the windows down going through the gears, I'm hands down impressed and when I can I believe this is what I want (this fall) I told Mark that I needed more fuel first, but don't think you have to have allot of fuel or your box on 5/5 to get it to spool it did it on 1/1 in his truck.

Next story, going home (35 miles) I had the itch to drive fast but had the cruise set at 70, topped a hill and met SMOKIE, they turned around:confused: are they after me... . yep! Hey what's your hurry... no hurry... we clocked you at 74 (in a 65) license please... ... . are you in the Military... ... Yes Sir!... ... . be right back... ... ran the licence ect... ... . Mr. Fulmer I'm just going to give you a warning..... we need to take care of our boys! Super guy as I had no ground to stand on... ... . drove at 65 all the way home!:D

Jim

P. S. I'll let Mark tell you about the other cops;)

Sorry Kat,

I've been doing Manual labor:( ;) :D

the B1 sounds awesome. the exhaust is not louder but the turbo is more pronouced.

Performance is awesome. it spools yesterday.

You hear it clearly from just off idle. I can hear it at idle but you have to know it's there.

the cops... . :-laf:-laf

on our way back to my parent's house I took the wrong cross street. I soon discovered, after laying rubber at 3 consecutive stop signs that this one runs past the the police station... OOOPS!!!

After getting my attention they asked. . "Do you mind laying off the acceleratot a bit?"

RE:"Yes Sir, not a problem! Sorry 'bout that. "
