Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) B-1 Turbo specs

Last year had a reputable shop in Carlisle,PA install a B-1 turbo in my truck... . very satisfied with install and performance,however, time to time I get asked : What is a B-1 . Been told it can be upgraded to handle as much as 70# boost. My truck cannot handle that yet. Can anybody shed some light on who makes this ,what it compares to as far as other turbos on market. My performance shop says he installs many of these a year. Thanks in advance for any help members can provide.

I believe it is a 62mm inducer and 65mm turbine. There were several flavors of B-1. B1-ex3 B1 ev4, b1 quickspool, b1 steroid. I think the quick spool was the . 7(12cm). I could be wrong as I have never had a B1 charger.

My B1-2 has the 14cm housing and it is wastegated---set at 40PSI,my first B1 was a quikspool version(i believe with a 11cm housing,non gated)---sold it and went to a gated version cause of hearing stories that the quikspool was the drive pressure king(don't know if this is true---but). It ran a bit hot with a BD brake behind it and 1. 5 Machs/Comp box. The guy that actually bought my quikspool blew the valve seats into 2 pistons while on vacation towing,he was known to drive/beat the heck out of his stuff and drive at max boost. I think the quikspool cost him an engine and thats not the first time i'v heard someone taking out an engine with the quikspool version. . My opinion,no flame/war intended.

Oo. After the turbo was installed, he had his mech. grind off some #'s on the housing which I thought was a bit suspicious. Nontheless,I didn't worry to much about it because it did make a significant difference in performance. It must be wastegated at 40PSI... it never goes over that. Towing my trailer rarely gets it to 20psi,so I know I'm getting plenty of volume. Anyway,thanks for the info!!!
