I had my HRVP44 for a about a month now, and yes I have the big cam loop at idle which I don't mind. It make great WOT power, but I can hear a tick/knock decellerating that starts exactly at 1550 rpm and goes away at idle. If I apply throttle it goes away, I thought maybe my injectors were weeping, I had a new set of jammer 3's on the shelf so I through them in to see if it made a difference and I couldn't detect a change. I had another post going a week ago - I suspected my bottom end, but everybody I talk too thinks it is to do with injection. If it's normal I'm ok with that, I would just like to now before I abuse it somemore and possibly break something. I suspect the pump has a close loop in the programming and it is preparing to idle and the noise I hear is the injection proccess.

Any thoughts?

Thank Bret.

One more thing I have heard of the keyways( HRVP44 ) going in a little off prefect and shimming the key as it goes in, if it's not aligned perfectly. One would wonder if I should check it, and/or if that was the case could it give these symptoms.

Sounds like you're losing alot of sleep over this. Maybe you should go back to a stock pump.

I have had my HRVP44 on now for about 25,000 miles. At the point you hear that sound my engine is to loud to hear anything! :)

I think not to worry as above and enjoy the power!

Got a 1689 from the ecm: communication problem between vp44 and ecm. I am going to clean and lube the electrical connections and see what happens. I think the code is from the install of the pump because I had a rag that was wrapped around the power cable preventing a connection to the battery, I needed it in a hurry to clean a spill, and the battery connection( now that's luck) got made while the pump harness was unplugged  .

I'm curious if I am the only one who experiences noises like something is preparing to come through the hood when Decellerating( no throttle) from 1550 rpm to pushing the clutch in at 1000 rpm. Also does your HRVP44 when you come to a stop idle @ 1000 rpm for 5 seconds before returning to 800 rpm?

Monkeyman, are you saying your pump does the same thing?

I not complaining about the HRpump, if the noise if it normal, good then I won't Lose Sleep wondering if a connecting rod will poke a speed hole in my block.

Thank you,

Bret

Mine definitely has a higher idle. When I first start it up it will idle around 1000 rpm, then slow down after a little bit.

And it definitely makes the truck run LOUDER.

As for ticking, etc. I couldn't hear anything over the noise of the truck, so I am no help there.

If you can hear something that is louder then all the stuff you have on your truck, then something might be wrong.

Checking your keyway isn't really all that hard. And it might be worth your time.

Because my truck has the ctacher/smarty,plus a edge comp stacked with a TST Comp, I actually do not notice any noise other than normal from the HRVP44. Now I do know that if your timing is off a hair it will cause more noise (if key way is messed up or mismatched)I tried the HRVP44 before re-hooking up my computers and it was fine. Seems to fuel a lot more though.

Normal ECM programming is to idle high above 3-5mph - the logic assumed to be to keep the PS fluid flowing for the hydrobrakes while you are moving. So it sounds like the HRVP is making this feature a little more sensitive. Maybe you never noticed this before.

Only suggested you are losing sleep because everyone told you last week that there was no problem yet you are still concerned this week.

Thanks everyone for the help, I'm going check the keyway on my next day off, other than that if it's good I'm putting in the Mach 7's and going cruising in the rattle box, and see what happens - try to get use to these new sounds. I know what you meant too NPS, I get a little stressed with this ol'truck sometimes lots of sweat and blood in her making me persistant when she's not running right, I appreciate your input. So with a little luck all will be good, I'll post here if I find anything interesting.

Thanks,

Bret.

NPS, I have a copy of that book "How to win friends and influence people" if you want to borrow it.
