The directions with ARP studes say to torque loosen and retorque 3 times. The directions don't say anything about retorquing after several heat and cool cycles. But, so many people are saying you need to retorque often. Is it really necessary?

not unless you've got o-rings...

and even then, I would warm it up, let it cool back down, retorque.

then about 10 heat cycles give it another retorque, and I wouldn't worry after that

I redid my head in April and a local diesel mechanic told me to torque them and then start the truck and let it idle until it is up to operating temp. . I think I let mine idle 20min or so and then let it cool overnight and then retorque them again... Thats what I did and I have 0-rings and I havent had any problems...

Good Luck,
