BFG's seem to be the choice of tires by alot of you. Why? I can buy Cooper 285/75R16 AT's, load range D with a 50,000 mile tread life warranty for $108. 00 each. That's about a $40 savings per tire. Why should I buy BFG's? #ad

<font color=blue>I would buy them because I like the looks of the tire, and I have had good experience with the "older" version of the BFG A/T.

BFG is just know as a quality tire I suppose.

If I can squeeze it out of my BOMB budget I intend to get a set of 285 BFG A/T's soon for the factory 16x8 wheels. Until I can lift her up and get my 35's #ad

I've been driving on BFG Radial Mud-Terrain T/As since 1980 (exclusively); the current set of All-Terrains on my Ram is also my first set. The All-Terrains better suit my driving style now. I've ALWAYS had extremely good luck with BFG tires. #ad
I feel the higher price per tire is offest by its many advantages over the competition. They're also the only tires I'm proud enough of to mount white letter out. #ad

There is an older thread on cooper tires on
this forum that might help you, just check
a couple of more pages back. I had a set of
coopers on my 93 and liked them, got 30,000
miles out of them.

It's the best looking white letter tire out there. I think that the quality of BFG is well worth the extra cost.

I've never had to have more than 1oz. of weight added when they were balanced, even with the 35's. On some of my other big tires I've had to use Road Tractor wheel weights to get them balanced. Some of you guys might know what I'm talking about. #ad

I've also had great service from BFG's over the years. Off road traction is my primary reason for gong with them. They are also lasting very well, mine currently have 24,000 miles on them and I should be able to get about another 16,000 or so. That's with a day at the 1/4 mi (6 runs with full burnouts - had to pull through the bleach box), plus some more burnouts at the Woodward Dream Cruise (I had to show up some of the cars, the crowd was on it's feet!)

1. Excellent tread wear.
2. Great Wet Road traction.
3. Great Snow/Ice Traction.
4. Better than average mud traction. (T/A's)
5. Awesome Looks!
6. Only Time I was ever pulled was in a 3 foot snow bank, setting on both axles while plowing snow. I was plowing a path in 2 feet + of snow to my friends house he was building, I suddenly felt the truck pull hard right, hit the brakes just as the back end dropped. I put it in reverse, let out the clutch, and BAM! I was done. Ends up I crossed a set of ruts left from the contractors backhoe on a rainy day.

One word - Baja... What do you do when you're 50 miles off road and 150 miles further down the highway from help when your 2nd tire comes apart and you only carried one spare? The BFGs (and Michelins) seem to be able to hold up better in the real tire eating situtations. I feel better when the deck is stacked in my favor. jmo...

On my previous truck, I went from Firestone RMT 33x12. 50 to BFG RMT (Radial Mud Terrain) in the same size. The difference in ride quality, handling, and fuel mileage (gasser truck) was INCREDIBLE ! If not for the fact that I have Michelins on my dually right now, it would already have a set of BFG's on there. I might lose a few thousand miles in tread wear, but I'll gain looks and performance... . HIGH performance.
Which is better, generic KMart tennis shoes, or Nikes? Not knocking the Coopers, they're a good tire, depends on whether you're shopping for cost or performance. To those of us who KNOW, the BFG's are world-class and worth the extra $$.

I would like to add that I should've went with the BFG Mud-Terrains. The All-Terrains pick up alot more gravel that gets thrown into the fenderwells and possibly at other vehicles.

Our local cooper tire dealer stinks. If you come back for a defective tire, they won't even talk to you about it. This is from my Dad's and friends experience. I liked the looks and the name of the BFG's anyway.

Just got home after getting the ram shod with a set of TAko's. Only had 10k mi on michelins. Ride is greatly improved and steering much more precise. The take offs were about 40% worn. The steering wheel was about 15 deg. to the right now it is straight. had set up appointment to get it aligned next Tue. Still will but not as critical now. 3 tires took 1. 5 oz the other took 2 oz. Have had TA's on all trucks since 82, love em. #ad

Nope,

Not in our sizes. My 315X75X16's are load range D. Max pressureis 50 psi cold. Right now I'm running 45 psi front 35 psi rear. The 315's are really close to the tires I was 'going' to use on this truck (35X12. 50X16. 5) and fill the fender wells nicely.

Can't always go by load range. read the max pressure and max weight that is molded in the side wall.

How much gross weight do you want the tire to carry.
my TA ko 265x75x16 load range D are rated at 3042lb @ 65 psi. thats 6084# per axle. the truck is rated 5200# front and 6084# rear.

the 245x75x16 "M"'s are load range "E" but are rated at 3042# also >>> go figure ????

i know what you mean about the ratings. there does'nt seem to be any real system to the scale. i was going nuts trying to find a decent off road type tire that had an e rate, and when i could'nt i settled for a bridgestone at tire in a d range. turned out the bridgestone d was rated for 3305. my e's were 3048. ??????

Yes, but your D rated tire achieves its max rating (3305 lbs. ) at 65 psi whereas the E rated tire achieves its (lower... 3042 lbs. ) max rating at 80 psi. What is at stake here is sidewall stability. The E rated tires are rated as such due to the ability to "better carry the load safely".

Not carrying loads (Yet), Just prefer the e rated tire. Will likely go with the D only because BFG doesn't make one in the AT's. Thats okay.

Have several trucks One ton dually etc. 11500 to 14000 GVW (Most running at or near full weight all the time), some had D and had E rated tires. The E last longer, at least in our application. Sidewall issues were my concern, not the weight.

But for my daily driver that just has to haul my fat A around D's will do fine #ad

I too run BFG's. Ive had them on every truck I own. Also, BFG does make an 'E' rated tire in size 235/75R16. Got em on my 93 W250.
