Axle weight rating question

Has anyone used the B&W hitch RVK3600 which is the hitch that fits the Ram factory 5th wheel prep system... in a SHORTbed, not longbed. Any issues since the B&W RVK3600 is not a slider? What precautions do you take?

Many do so with no issues. I would set the head as far back as possible to start then adjust from there. The Cummins is heavy so the front axle will not suffer if 100# is removed when hitched. As always there are limitations. If I were in your shoes I would get the RVK3600 as long as your 5er has the rounded front.

I'm a tremendous fan of the B&W hitches. Shortbeds towing 5th wheels - ummm, not so much. We have 2 friends in our Texas Boomers RV club that tow 5th wheels with shortbed Rams and B&W hitches. Both have dented C-pillars on their cabs. My point - maybe you'll get away with it, but maybe you won't. So much depends on the configuration of the front cap of your 5th wheel, the length of the pinbox extension, etc. There are just too many variables to state with absolute certainty that you can do it with no problems. If you recognize that it's going to be a crapshoot going in, then I guess it's worth a try....

I have the 3600 in my rig. My 2 cents worth...lessons learned:
I've been pulling 5th wheels since '98 with short beds. In that time I've made two mistakes, both based on laziness on my part. The first, years ago with my '01, was not taking the time to release the slide when backing into a familiar campsite. The site had a nice deep pot hole and as I had the trailer in a near 90 degree angle, hit the hole and ended up with a nice dent in the cab. The worst of it was a seam separation on top of the trailer that didn't show up until the next spring in the form of water damage to the front. The second and most recent happened when I decided to leave my tailgate on rather than installing the 5th wheel tailgate. I thought...short camping trip, why bother this time. Well all was fine until I got home and went to back into my driveway. It is a perfect 90 degrees off the street. I always slide the hitch back to maneuver in. Across from my driveway the street isn't curbed and it had rained for days. When the truck dipped off the asphalt in that angle, the rear tire sunk nearly 8" and up popped the other side and tailgate met gooseneck. My gate looked like a can opener had been taken to it. Moral of this story, if you love shortbeds like I do, NEVER take shortcuts.
The biggy for me with this hitch is it HEAVY. It's not a one person job. I have a hoist to get it in and out. Other than the dump stuff I mentioned, I recommend the B&W.

I went for the RVK3270 manual slider and the Demco 6099 picture frame. I do not run my tailgate, so I do not have to worry about it. SNOKING
