Just a quick question,

To those of you that have installed the B&W turnover Ball gooseneck hitch on trucks with the rear wheelhouse liners.

Did you have to remove the wheelhouse liner to get access to the frame bolts to tighten/torque them or were you able to do it without removing them?

I received the hitch last week and will be installing soon. If I don't have to remove them that would be great.

Oh, one more, did you have to make a cutout of some sort for the locking arm that is in the LH wheelwell? Thanks ahead of time.

OOOPS wrong forum. Should have posted in Towing section:eek:

I installed mine on my 02 about 8 months ago. Was able to tighten the bolts without removing plastic inner fender guard, tough, since not alot of room. I holesawed (about 1-3/4") through the plastic inner fender for the relese lever, just below the vertical part of the body.

I installed one on my '97 about four years ago. I did not remove the liners but was unable to use a torque wrench, so I used a big impact instead. No problems after several hundred loads. For the release handle I located and drilled a hole slightly larger than the handle shaft diameter. I fabricated a longer handle with bar stock so the handle protruded slightly past the liner.

Thanks for the tips people...

That's what I was looking for!:D

I just won't worry about torqueing the bolts then, since lack of space between there is an issue. I'll just put some anti-sieze on the bolts and use a breaker bar or ratchet and crank down on 'em.

Thanks again!

Phil,

On the other hand, the fender liners aren't hard to remove and install. With them out of the way the whole operation would be easier if you are working with the truck sitting on the ground. Just my $. 02.

Rember free advice is wort about what you paid for it:D

Phil,

I've installed many of these hitches and I usually just remove the wheel well covers to make life easier for myself. To reinstall them, I just use 1/4" press-in anchors that you can find at any auto parts store, and have never had any problems or call-backs.

Also, the suggestion to use the hole saw to cut a hole in the cover for the locking-pin handle is good, too. That's what I do. Of course, wait to cut that hole till after the cover is reinstalled.

HTH :D

Guys,

I am thinking about going to the B&W with a companion hitch, instead of re-installing my old Reese rails from my '02 truck.

How do you like them? Does anyone have the "companion head"?

What is the best price found out there on these?

Thanks

Eric

T&R is where i bought mine... . ordered on monday and had it on wednesday:) Unfortunately, the truck is still in Mexico... most likely still in pieces... :(

I have had my B&W for about 4 years now and I diito on what others have said. I also have the companion 5th wheel hitch and to me it is top notch.

Great prices

Thanks for the input guys.

The wife agrees we need the B&W for the new 03 and that it is a much nicer hitch than re-using the old Reese from the 02.

I found that T&R definately has the best prices anywhere and plan to order both the turnover ball goose and the companion 5er head next week from T&R.

If you are looking to go with the B&W, check out T&R.

Eric:)
