I've done alot of searching and it seems that my turbo upgrade of choice will be for a B1. That being said, What should I expect to pay for one and what kinda HP level should this give me? I plan on adding stage 2 or three injectors and want to keep EGT's in check for towing. Thanks in advance.

BWILLARD: The B-1 is a great turbo for daily driving, drag racing, sled pulling, and even towing to a certain extent. When I was running the B-1 and DDIII's during a sled pull, I hit 51 boost and 1457 egts. If your going to spend the money on the injectors, skip the II's. The price is'nt much more and you probably want III's later on down the line anyway. As far as towing with the B-1 it barks and chatters alot in overdrive. when in third lockup up to about 65MPH, no problems, no noise, and egts were fine. As far as how much $$$, someone else might have a better idea than me. I think their between $1500-$1700, and the B-1 down pipe is probably around $150 or so. I can't remember exactly the h. p. gain on the dyno, but I think it was around 22-27 or so.

Hp gain is dependent on your current mods and if you're beyond your current turbo's limit to produce enuff air to burn the fuel and what do you expect to do in the future concerning mods--I agree with Mr. B Seitz in all his comments--chris

2broke2smoke: It's a standard B-1. I bought it a couple of years ago from HVAC when he first started to sell them, and at the time, I don't think the quick spool was an option. what kind of h. p. or fueling mods are you running, if any?

BWillard:

I tried both the regular housing B-1 and the KS B-1 on my

96' Dodge 12 valve equipped with an automatic transmission.

IMO,..... the "lag" on the regular housing B-1 was terrible

and the KS B-1 was not much better. Towing with it made

it even worse and as "BSeitz" said "it barks and chatters

alot in overdrive. " To me, that is an understatement!

FYI, I saw 35 more rear wheel horespower with the

regular housing B-1 over my stock HX-35/12. It had

only 8 more RWHP than my Piers HX-40/16. This was

on the 96' equipped as follows in the signature below.

Your results may vary.

Hope this has helped you some.

stock hp so far ... gonna get a comp box in the next couple of months ... then a b-1 by the time Thunder in Muncie rolls around ... Mach 3's for Christmas next year ('cause i have such a wonderfull wife, who reads these forums;) )

i won't tow more than 4k and then not very often

my priorities are :

1) durability, i can only afford to do it once and the only thing everyone has ever agreed on this site is that the b-1's are tough

2)cool egts, back to the durability

3)enough air for the comp box and 3's

i not really worried about lag, unless it's just unreasonable with the 89% DTT convertor, i'm gonna bug everyone on here with a b-1 for the next 6 months probably ...

Well, I'm almost finished with my swap from an auto to NV5600----hopefully by the weekend :D So this leaves me with my HY35:( Now I'll really be able to put some fuel through this thing! I have no problem going to a stage 3 injector "BELIEVE ME" as long as I can use most of the fuel with in reason, while towing. I tow around 12k. I've heard so many, I'll say "LESS DESIRABLE" things about HX40's to want to go the B1 route. Changing to a full (B1)4" exhaust is really not that big a deal to me either. I did have EGT issues with my HY35/auto/comp on setting 2 towing, so I know this will be a necessary measure now with the 6 speed and injectors.

the B1 is one of the strongest single turbos out there--I'd go with one of the kwikspool models if you tow as that's one of the thing most guys complain of is keeping it spooled while towing--chris

My thoughts were for the standard housing. Wouldn't stage 3 injectors/comp keep it spooled? But then again there's always 5th gear:D BTW probably the highest elavation I tow in is around 2800ft, it's just the ups and downs around here!

depends how fast you want to go while towing--which is not a prob as you can tow as fast as you want, it's the other times when you're stuck behind someone or kind of floating in between which gear to use that the kwikspool should help--chris

Well, I'm at the mercy of the Dodge dealer on getting the swap done:( Soon as I get my shifter parts in, I'll be that much closer to gettin' my turbo:cool:

RPM's are your biggest help in keeping it spooled. If you drop much below 1800ish and need to accelerate on a grade all that fuel will do is make smoke. Keep it around 2k or so. I have both housings for my Twin setup and much prefer the quikspool for daily driving. Haven't dyno'd yet with the quikspool so can't give the drawbacks if any. But hope to soon.

DHayden,

Thanks alot. That was really what i was looking for. That looks like the route I'll be taking as far as injectors. Now, as for the Kwik spool-----I don't know  Anyone running the standard housing???

I talked to Kurt today and he thinks that a B1b would be a good choice! Now that I have my 6 speed in and I can compensate for some of the lag, I'm still leaning for the standard housing. Anyone have any likes or dislikes about either? I will be running DD3's also.

BTW, Kurt said if I could get a Group Buy going, it would be even cheaper! I didn't really go in to it with him, so I don't have a Group buy price. Just something to think about. :D

The standard B1 worked great for me. Sled pulling, Drag racing, Dynoing or even towing, that charger worked very well with my set up. The B1s are very tough! lol, Jeremy
