Thanks for all of the replys guys. I have a call into Kurt. I am not sure the B1 is for me. I'll have to talk to him. I want to keep the fast spooling of the little HY but need to cool down the egt's. how bad is the lag on the B1? Maybe it will work? I found a HX 40/16 for about $650 used. Is that a good price? thanks again, greg

With your mods, I would call peirs and see what he will sell you. I would think one of his HX40's would be perfect if you tow, and if not, then his 35 MIGHT be good enough for you. The B1 is a big ole turbo, but you will have to wait because they are on back order, and they cost quite a bit.

Just some more logs for the fire,

Andrew

Greg are you haveing EGT problems now? I am about to install DD2's and I have the hy and was wondering if your running hot?

Lag w/ just DDIII's or my BDIV's is't bad at all. I only notice the lag really when I turn the COMP box on 1x1 and its defueling... .

Just the injectors alone driving it I would say its not bad at all.

However I have never had DDII's in my truck.

The AT-4 turbo is supposed to be quicker on the spool up... . and Kurt thinks us auto guys will love it. I have it sitting it (arrived today) and will have some thoughts on it soon.

Yogibear uses DD2s and a B1 and loves it.

It doesn't spool like a HX35/12 but it rocks.

Bullet proof, spools fast, supports tons of power, and keeps EGTs down. What else could you ask for.

It's expensive but the only set up that does all this is twins. 3-4k for them.

I can't complain about mine. I love it. Twins would be cool but are really hard to justify with the performance I already have.

FWIW,

Mark

Sky,

I can peg 1500* on the pyro in about 6 seconds with comp on 5x5. If I let it run a little easy I have no problems. DDII's just by themselves are great. Box on 1x3 or 5 is better than the old VA.

Kat,

Let me know what you think about the new turbo. I am waiting for a call from Kurt. I just worry about lag when I haul the horses. I'm sure I will like how it runs when I am playing.

Mark,

What are the top end Egt's with the B1. I am just a little worried about smokin' the HY

My EGTs on the street top out about 1550. On the Dyno at cummins they pegged it and then some, but they run to the redline and then drag it back down. It gets really hot.

I haven't towed w/the DD3s yet.

I know that going from your 9cm housing to a HX35/12 drops EGT significantly(a couple hundred degrees or more). An HX40 drops 150-200 over the HX35 and the B1 drops about 200* off of that.

I could run to 1500* with my HX35 almost instantly in 6th gear. With the B1 they will get to 1550 but they top out there and I have to run at WOT for about a hafl mile or more for that to happen... running over 100mph for that long is hard in the insurance rates;):D

The EGT gauge used to climb like a tachometer now it just slowly climbs. In anything less than level 5 EGTs never get over 1250.

Hey Mark,

Have you towed anything with this turbo? I have heard how great the HX40 is for towing. I will be hauling in the heat of the summer and I live in the desert. Just want to be sure this is what I need before shelling out all that $$$$$$$$$$

Kat,

Whats up with the AT-4? How could you not run it yet and tell?

Because I have a dragstrip installation planned. Meaning I will run with the B1... ... swap the turbos and run with the AT-4 all within a couple of hours of each other.

Greg,

The HX40 is great for towing, but as you may suspect, we have the technology to throw an amount of fuel at it that pushes it over the EGT edge. I am there. I had too much fuel going thru a HX35, that was way low for the HX40-16. Then I added more & was still on the safe side. Well, that just can't be ... for too long anyway, so I added more & could easily/quickly get 1500. I've added even more, but it sure is nice. :)

My take on the B-1 is that it keeps EGT's in the 1500 arena even with obscene/mental amounts of fuel.

You could over heat a B1 with DD3s. It's hard to do. Cummins southern plains did it on their dyno with my truck for a minute or two. not long enough for damage.

It broke the tires loose on the dyno at 3000rpm in 5th and then 3000 rpm and sixth with enough power that they just spun and the dyno could not drag the engine below 2600 rpm.

They measured 377hp before the tires broke loose. The operator estimated 470hp at the crank that he measured. the truck got hot enough to engage the fan. my 60,000mi tread waer tires were gummi when it came off.

IT WAS A LOAD OF FUN JUST WATCHING THE FACE OF THE OPERATOR WHEN I POSTED BIGGER NUMBERS THAN THE PREVIOUS 2 MACK TRUCKS!!!!!

They guessed at 430 rwhp but due to slippage but could not confirm it. I'll be on a dynojet w/Kat this weekend in Tulsa where we can strap the truck down better and the wheels of the dyno are textured for grip.

With anything stage 4 and below EGTs are controlable by adjusting the comp down. stage 5 and up will vary due to load and altitude.

You will be happy with the B1 and could be happy with the AT4.

give kurt a call and tell him your troubles and hell tell you the same things in different words. I had the same issues you do. It's a lot of money to throw down.

Later,

Mark
