Biodiesel and fuel filter

veggie oil who has started using it??

Ive searched here a couple times , but is anyone using straight 100% Biodiesel (B100)?? What are your results ??

I have access to it here and want to make sure I can run it safley. Of course the supplier says I can.

Thanx Tom.

I Read somewhere,(can't remember which bio diesel site) that the 03s /04s will have problems with a fuel senser running on bio. I don't know what the solution for that was though

When you go to Bio on a 24V, the Bio will act as a solvent in the tank and loosen up alot of crud. Plan to change the fuel filter often until it cleans out. Make sure you have a post-filter FP gauge.

In the north, B100 might be gellin in the winter (and not the Dr Shoals kind :D ). So you might want to step back to B20.

I wish I could get Bio here in Vegas. The county collects all the WVO and makes their own for school buses. They don't sell to the public either. Several members have posted on the Gen Diesel threads that they are sucessfully using B100 with no problems.

They use WVO because they say 1) Vegas produces 3 times WVO per resident than the rest of the US because of the casinos, and 2) Vegas is too far away from soy stocks.

Last I looked there weren't many dead dino fields close to here either, but we get plenty of dino diesel.

I have heard that becasue of the high injection pressures the B100 may not be tolerant of the injection system. The phenomena was know as "flocking". I'm not sure if this is as much of an issue as it was originally thought to be.

Hey Mike, I found it in 2 places

co op in mpls, ill get his # for you. Right off 35W in mpls. He was high though... 3. 00 if your a member ($120) and 2. 75 if non member... RIGHT!!

Im going to get it from "Cash Gas" in Elk River as that would be closer for me. THEY WILL NOT fill your truck. They will only fill 55 gallon drums. . but its 2. 50 gal. . So needless to say I bought a new 55gal drum ($50. 00) and am getting a pump from fleetfarm. Just have to decide manual or plug in style :D :D

There is also a place in apple valley that has a pump but not sure of thier name, ill look into it and let you know . Or do a search on biodiesel.org

Hey Crimefighter- where can you find 100% bio in MN? Can you also fill me in on cost?

Thanks!

Mike

I'll start by saying that I am NO EXPERT when it comes to biodiesel, but I did some research in preparatoin to run B20 in my truck here in Indiana. There are at least 30 sources of B20 within a 20 mile radius of my house. I wrote Stanadyne to ask about continued use of Performance Forumula with B20. What I received were several very thoughtful articles about why Stanadyne cannot currently endorse B20 (or B100, or any other level). It has to do with current standards in production and BIO's tendency not to age very well. Crimefighter, that is one reason the "filling the drum" didn't sound like such a good idea in light of what Stanadyne sent me. I don't know how fast you go through fuel but Stanadyne urged me to look for the very freshest BIO if I went that direction.

End the end I chose to stick with regular old #2. This saddened me because I thought the B20 option would be a neat way to support the local agriculture economy and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

I know plenty of folks who run B20 successfully, I just chose to wait until all of the OEMs are satisfied that standards are up to snuff.

I've been running it in my 98. 5 for a short while now. I picked up another 130 gallons on Thursday.

It costs $3. 69 a gallon here, but the MD soybean growers give you a 50% rebate, so it's cheap!.

No issues with my 24 valve, not even the loosening up of deposits that everyone claims will happen, so far my fuel filter has looked just fine.

I have no advice as far as the 3rd gens are concerned, but will ask my customers about it, alot of our farmer customers use it.
