Diesel/Veggie oil blend

FASS with B100

Earlier this week dad went ot go fill up his transfer tank with B100 for use in tractors and his p/u. The price jumped from $1. 94 last week to $2. 34... off-road. The reason, none really. They just had to catch up to #2 I suppose.

Not a good idea.

It is going to get worse. Several major methanol plants are shutting down. So the price is going to go up. Natural gas prices and ethanol are getting the blame.

You know the the oil co's / refinners are not going to cut there profits.
Went to the living green expo at the fair grounds sun and pick up a CD at a both that was some state officals , lot of good info , testing of Hennipen co , plow trucks , 2 yrs , 2 winters , storage , production and a lot more .
I wounder if Norm has checked his ?
We spent a lot of time ranting on the gougers .

Yes and no. We've got a couple 3000gal storage tanks just sitting here. That would allow me some major bulk discounts on raw product. I could easily pay for a set-up in less than a year. I just don't have the spending cash to start a major project like that right now. A small setup isn't worth the time involved for the amount of fuel I/we go thru.

WVO isn't an option 'cause I'd need way more than I could ever find around here. I'd probably have to use soybean oil or something similar.

It sounds like the best thing , would be to have those tanks filled with b100 , from what I'm hearing you'ld save over a dollar a gal. min. , then mix maybe 30-35%.
I just tried about 20% , pluged my 1st fuel filter , runs quiter , smother ,seems to get to opperating temp a little slower ,
Now I think that its waking up a little , over the winter it seemed like the injectors were starting to miss , maybe dirty , bad spray pattern , now it feels like thats gone away .

There are a couple problems with filling those tanks with B100.

1. They were previously used for fertilizer storage. One could be easily rinsed out, the other I don't know about. That still leaves me with trying to dry out at least one of them after rinsing it.

2. Mixing the B100 into a smaller % means I'd have the B100 here longer than it's shelf life. Yes, I could just order less, but that's not the point.

The best idea I can come up with is to find a farmer who needs the tanks and "trade them in" for a smaller new tank.

I'd still like to figure out a way to use them for raw product and make my own. I doubt that will ever happen though.

Along those same lines, dad swears it "woke up" his Freightliner grain semi. He thinks it must have super-cleaned the injectors or something.
