sorry guys if I am posting this and it already exists but I searched for similar but didn't see anything.

On the way home on freeway been running 70mph for about 20 miles all of the sudden I hear a pop from under the hood like a gas motor back fire, ball of black smoke out the back kept on running and put another 500 miles on it back roads and freeway with no problems. Anyone got an idea what it was? I am thinking maybe injector getting ready to blow? No loss of power, no smoke since. .

Okay I will check them, I haven't seen a drop in boost or anything else but since it has close to 100,000 miles on it probably wouldn't hurt to change it out.

I checked the hoses and do not see any visable splits or cracks. I ordered hose kit from Bob's so will install them anyhow. Would there be anything else? So far after that happened I was a long way from home so ended up driving home 700 miles so far no problems.

i think a injector stuck open for a second. this will do exactly what happened to you. if it sticks open and stays open shut it down immediately. we have a 03 that the injectors would stick open or closed. the dealer could not change one unless the scanner showed it was bad. after three months they had found two of them, one more had started to stick open like yours but did not show up on scanner. we argued with the lady at the warranty department for an hour, she said the dealer has to see it before they would let them change it. two days later about 10 miles from the dealer it stuck open, the driver turned around and started toward the dealer, it looked like a coal fired train. it is unbelievable how much fuel the cp3 can force through one injector, he was getting about two gallons per mile. did not make it back all of the way before it seized up. warranty put in a new short block and used two of the old injectors. we finally paid for two refurbished injectors exchange. and warranty griped about that. you need to add a 2 micron filter
