GLTDR Michigan Area Breakfast - April 2003

Lunch April 5th at Famoous Dave's.

What a fantastic weekend! I can't believe I missed that last year! Kirk gets the award for getting the most done in the shortest amount of time. It was good meeting some of the folks that for one reason or another I hadn't met yet. Thanks to BillH and Doc for setting up everything. I'm already looking forward to next year.

I'm back too. It's always fun to see some of the gang at these events. I'm excited about next year's event,(might be time for some serious 3rd gen BOMBing) but the TIM is in my sights now. Oo. :D  ;) THAT should be REALLY cool:cool:

Whew am I tired. That is the hardest I have worked in a long time. Sorry I didnt have time to meet everyone. Next year I am helping others, I hope. Here is the list of accomplishments.

Tightened Head Bolts.

1. Injectors.

2. Bigger fuel lines (oops I didnt know they would be that hard to figure out after I pulled them all off without making a map)

3. JVD Torque Enhancer

4. HX-50 Turbo

5. 4" down pipe to 5" stacks piped under bed over fuel tank.

I brought a auxillary fuel system that I will put on next week. Stock lift pump pressure is suprisingly good on my set-up.

Truck runs like a raped ape. Rob,Wally, and dang I forgot your name again, I owe you guys big time( steaks and drinks on me soon) Thank again to others that helped also. At one point I had a hot dog in one hand and a wrench in the other and zero socializing the whole day.

 :( See you guys soon I hope.

I'm in the process of uploading the 120 or so pics I took. They are raw from my camera; some of them will be sideways. As I am heading right to a funeral in Sioux Falls, I won't be able to process the pics until next week, and I wanted to get them up quickly.

Go to http://murent.us/GLTDR-Macomb-0322/ and click on the individual links; I don't even have them in HTML as yet.

Warning, the pics are all 120KB to 170KB in size, so if you have a slow link and less patience, you may want to wait a week or so. :)

well got my KDp done.

It was so much fun.

First the fan got tighter each way. Turned it right, it got tighter. Went back the other way, it got easier, then tighter. Hmm, checked the directions, ran it back right. Got really hard, ran it back left and I felt it bottom out on the threads, so I ran it back right and had to really put my weight in it to get it off. Then the fan didnt want to come out of the shroud. Got it out.

Things went fine till I went to hook the air up. We didnt have a pressure reglulator. Ended up "stealing" Doc's little air compressor with a built in regulator and used that till the motor got hot and kicked its self off. Took off the regulator and plumbed it into the hose to use the shop air.

Then when I was counter sinking the hole, I forgot the drill would work in both foreward and reverse. Got it counter sunk and tapped.

Got it going back together and the alternator is tight on its lower bracket. I manage to get the bolt to go through and get it on tight. I was needing to replace the old belt, but I forgot to bring one. I think it got stepped on and split in 2 in 2 spots. So off to find another one. Goodyear didnt have one in stock , good thing it was $56. Autozone had a Kelly Springfield. Got back and it didnt fit. It was the same length as the old one. Had the tensioner on the stop and it was an inch too short. Noticed that when I put the alternator on, I kind of missed the hole and the bolt went in above the bracket. Got it back in the right spot, and it ran just fine.

it took a little longer than the 45 mins it was supposed to take. it ran over by 5 hours.

nice easy job, just like always.

but it was the 5 hours at hooters afterwards that wore me out.

I hope everyone had a safe ride home, and that you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Did have a little mishap on my way home, blew a heater hose and lost my anti freeze (don't even ask how or why), but was able to fill with water. Will flush my system this week.

Thanks to all of you, we have been invited back for a third event next March.

BillH

What a day. I had a great time.

Met a lot of good people and learned a lot in the meantime.

I'm still in awe that Kirk got all that done. :--)

The girls deserve a big thanks also for for all the (unburned) hotdogs and all the work to assure we maintained our nice round figures.

Thanks to all. I'll be back next year (With a truck):D

Don

Man this year was great just like last. Got my 370's in. All i have to say is WOW:--) . These things woke this truck up. Now all have to do is time it, put the delivery valves, and stop it from stalling at a stop. Thanks to eveyone who helped and nice to see some new and old faces.

Hope to see you all next year.

Tony

P. S. Eric, Umm smoke. What the heck you created a monster.

3 lanes of trafic no problem. LOL Thanks

I also had a good time and met some really great people!

Definitely was a learning experience. So much knowledge and experience in one place provided an accelerated educational experience for me. Of course watching others work tends to impede on one's own progress, but I certainly got a great start on installing my gauges. Well I'm glad to hear that the group has been invited back next year, I'm already looking forward to it :) !

Thanks again to the guys that helped me out, including Bill's chauffeur drive to the parts store.

Bill

I just thought of something. I finished in time to start truck and pull out of shop. I didnt get to clean up my mess I think I might have left. Bill if I owe the janitor a tip or if you guys cleaned up my mess let me know, I can be very rewarding at times:D

Too bad I missed this years event. I guess there is always next year :) I hope.

Cooker,

I never adjusted my idle when i put my new trans in so it has a very low idle. It is fixed now so no worries. Hope to see you next year.

Thanks Neal! Have I mentioned, I HATE dial-up?

Rob
